Jose SHOrt Shifter doesn't fit?

Hey guys I'm trying to install a Jose SHOrt shifter in my 93 and I can't for the life of me figure out why this thing won't go in. It's almost like my rod shifter box is sitting too low and the Jose just sits on my floor. Has anyone run into this before or does anyone see anything wrong with how I mounted the rod shifter to my floor? It's been a while but I'm pretty sure it's mounted correctly.

My rods are bolted to the trans and everything is torqued down. I can't see why this sits so low. It's about 1.5" below the floor. I was talking to Tim and in his 89 he said his is about an inch down and we can't figure out why my shifter is sitting so low. Thoughts?

By the way the picture makes it look like the Jose is actually up in the air but it's not. The braces are literally sitting on the floor (screws are backed 100% out) and the shifter is floating above the rod shifter box.

That's just the way it is. It looks like you have all the brackets attached the way they should be. My shifter sat in there pretty deep too but I never measured how deep. Once you get the shifter mounted then you tighten the bolts on the braces to add tension.

That's just it. I CAN'T mount the shifter. It won't sit deep enough in the hole. The braces just hit the floor boards even with the stops all the way backed out.

Thanks. I'm thinking I may have to grind down my bracket so I can compress the bushings more. I just shouldn't have to do that so I want to be absolutely sure before I do it.

Ok guys my nightmare is over after a ton of wasted time and money and I cannot believe the solution. I wanted to share this so hopefully someone else does not go through this. To make a very long story short I loosened the rod shifter bolt that holds it to the transmission.

My mistake was I tightened down the rod shifter trans boss bolt first while the shifter was sitting on the ground and then swung the shifter up and bolted it all up. There must have been enough bolt clamping force on the boss bolt to hold some downward pressure on the flimsy hollow rod shifter rods and keep them flexed, which put downward pressure on my shifter. As soon as I loosened up the boss bolt, the rod must have straightened out and my shifter sat as it should. It sure seemed like the boss was swinging freely but apparently it was not. Hopefully this helps someone out in the future.
