Just had a phone call from Carter. Jessica got the MAX allowed by KS
State Law.
41 months in jail, with good behavior could be out in 38 months,
moreover, she received and additional 36 months probation after she is
released.

As I told Carter, IMHO it doesn't make it any less painful, but it
makes the streets that much safer with her behind bars. Sometimes the
system does work.

He wanted me to make sure I thanked everyone for their support of he
and his family during this extremely trying time.

I'm glad you seem happy with the sentence . In my opinion the punishment nowhere near fits the crime

Hoot, I'm sure there's noone that's "happy" with that decision, but it IS better than nothing. It's very sad that that's the MAXIMUM for killing a fellow human being. I certainly don't agree about getting out early for "good" behavior either. One day, in the end, she'll have to atone for what she's done in this life, as we all will. And she'll get hers, for sure.

It doesn't matter. She is now in the system. She most likely will lose custody of her childern. She will have a roomate name "bubbette" and most likely stay high as a kite while in prison. The reality is that we don't know what happened to her driving privilege.

We do know that her world is materially going to change for a long, long time.

Anybody here wanna do time in a Federal Pen?? Thought so.

We need to just put our collective "arms around" Tammy and Carter.
No parent, under any circumstances, should ever have to bury a son or daughter. Period.

Larry just about summed it up 100%. Maybe a lesson will be learned to all that has had anything to do with this misfortune, or a similar one, and make us all different people, especially behind the wheel of a vehicle, SHO or not.

That sentence is nowhere near what it should be for the life she took and the many lives she destroyed.

They should take her license if they haven't already

Taking the license never truly stops an idiot who thinks nothing of what she has done to this family. She will someday get to go back home. This family waits an enternity for their loved one to return..and it won't happen.

We need gallows built to take back America from those who do not care about others! Just harsh reality (sorry for the vent)

38 months is a nice stretch. It will change her life for sure.. Whether for better or worse, who knows.

whats taking her license away gonna do ? she doesnt mind driving drunk, so why would she mind driving drunk and unlicensed ?

its not having a license actually determines if your capable of understanding how to operate a vehicle. its not like deleting a program off your computer

if i delete AOL / AIM off my computer, i can no longer get on those services, take away my license and i can still physically pilot a vehicle ...

sometimes i cant wait till the government starts installing mind control chips.... jessica needs one that blocks her ability to move when sitting behind the wheel of a vehical ....

or maybe a chip that causes her to bash her own head off the steering wheel anytime she attempts to turn an ignition key, step on a brake pedal or move a shifter. shed give up on driving real quick with that :)

must - turn - key - BANG
must - move - shifter - BANG
brake - pedal - BANG

problem solved via surgically installed personal **** :)

Wow. I honestly still can't believe that the maximum they give for killing someone is that short. But, I guess it is what it is. At least they didn't let her get away with what her lawyer and family wanted. I feel bad for her kids- but hey, she made their bed, now unfortunately they have to lie in it.

As bad as I feel for her kids, I feel worse for you and your family, Carter- I don't know how anyone can go through what you did- not only the initial circumstance, but then the legal process and dealing with the possibility that she could still walk away. I hope you get some solace in knowing that she won't be hurting anyone else for a while. Prayers are still with you...

I do feel "justice has been served"

Even though it is only 41 months, she will now know that there are penalties that must be paid for the behavior she exhibited. I feel bad that her mother will probably end up with Jessica's daughter since from the comments she has been making in the paper (pray4you is her pen name) she will be as screwed up as Jessica when her mother gets out.
The sentencing story

One might note that she didn't seek psychiatric emotional help or land a volenteer job helping children of abuse until after her lawyer flipped the plea from not guilty to no contest. But of course the defense tried their best to keep the dates from being revealed.

I want to thank everybody on this forum for being there in spirit with me. It really did make a difference.

First my sympathies for your loss which still must sting a great deal.

To me this woman sounded like the thief who's not sorry she stole. But is so sorry to have been caught.

A bit erroneous he pleas of her daughter's welfare and need for her ,when she has proved to be a poor example of a person let alone a mother.

I hope that the three years in prison will make her think about your son and what she did.

Maybe then she will appreciate the idea of being a responsible parent and human being.
