Is it the crank sensor?

Ok, i got a chance to drive my g/f's 93 mtx after she had complained a couple time of something being wrong. During my drive, more than a couple of times, the car started to stutter like it was down a cylinder or two. With that i got an engine light, then it would be normal fr a while. When i got back home i puled the codes and came up with a 114 and a 116.

In the past when i have had this type of thing happen it has been the cam sensor. So i put one in, and took it for a drive. No change. Whats next? Is it going to be a crank sensor?

Cylinder balance test?? I would be inclined to check the usual suspects. Grounds, DIS, MAF coil pack.

One thing i forgot to add, when this happens the tach will either drop, or jump around a bit.

Often that type of intermittent rough running with no ignition-related codes can be a result of a bad plug wire, or one immersed in oil as mentioned above.

While a bad crank sensor without any codes is certainly possible, I'd suggest checking the plugs and wires first, make sure all your primary power and ground cables are connected securely and clean, and it can't hurt to give the MAF a cleaning.

If there's no oil in the wells, have a good hard look at the spark plug boots. Bend it, stretch it, twist it (careful not to disrupt the terminal). You are looking for holes or rips. If they were caused by arcing, they may be hard to see.

I did check the wells today, and they are dry. The wires have a lifetime warranty on them so i am going to get those done as well.
