So I've driven a number of other people's cars. Including my parents and such. However- for some odd reason, when I drive my wonderful 95' SHO around my city, street lights either go out- or turn on when I pass by or get close :oogle: . I've tested it before- like at my school at night. I pulled up to a streetlight and it turned off, and I backed away and it turned on again. I would of tested it again but it was enough to scare my girlfriend to death- so she made us leave.

Does anyone have a clue why this is happening? Frequencies of equipment or electrical stuff? I am mucho confused lol.

It's likely the way that your headlights are aimed. Streetlights work off photocell sensors, when light is shone on them they go off. Maybe your headlights are pointed too high.

It happens to me all the time in both my SHO and my Jeep.

Hey that would explain it woudlnt it... haha that helps me alot. Maybe my g/f won't be afraid to go riding in my car anymore. (She swore it was possesed)

But quick question, arent the photocells on the TOP of the light? Cus I KNOW that the headlights arent THAT high lol.

lol, i noticed the same thing a few times. thought it was just coincidence or i'm crazy..

probably some kind of hidden police camera up in the lamp that can only snap pics of you speeding by if the light turns off first

and i thought the photocells were on top of the street lamps? Can't imagine your headlights pointing that high

Around my house in college, a lot of the lights were motion activated, and sometimes sound activated. It really depends on where you are. I think you are just exaggerating a coincidence.

Of course, if you aren't, then say hello to the mothership for me.

Yellow sodium lights when the lamp gets near the end of it's life will start to cycle on and off. White mercury or metal halide lamps will not do this but take up to 5 minutes to re-strike after they go out. Most photocells also have a time delay on the re-start too.

I've noticed this happening in some areas that have ASPHALT (for some reason never concrete,) in all sorts of different cars.

I bought one of those night lights that turns off when it gets light out- I noticed that walking by it would turn it off/on. I played around with it, and it's my FOOT (not my shadow) that is affecting it. So I assume they pointed the sensor down at the ground so lights in other rooms wouldn't mess it up.

Maybe they do that with streetlights?? Sounds counter-intuitive but maybe it's more accurate than just pointing the sensor into the sky?

Slowly approach a garage door, wall, or whatever, and observe the pattern your headlights create. You'll probably find a small beam pointing up. Or, maybe she's right. It may also be a reflection of the streetlight off your car going right back to the light. If you pay close attention, you may occassionally see flashes on bridges and overpasses,,but only near Roswell.
