Hello all, after extensive research on the Ecoboost performance forums and watching numerous videos online I am considering doing the 1/16 drill hole in the bottom drivers side of the intercooler to drain out any accumulated sludge as I do not have a catch can setup as of yet. I will be working on my 2013 SHO non PP tomorrow with 116,000 miles, and I plan to do a PTU fluid change, trans drain and fill, and new plugs gapped to 0.30 to hopefully help alleviate some surging and p0300 codes under hard acceleration. I don’t believe the plugs or the fluids have ever been done so I’m definitely doing those first. It would appear that draining the intercooler is the next logical step and a lot of people seem to stand behind the mod as long as I plug the hole after I am done draining it as leaving it open would mean that driving through standing water under vacuum could actually intake water into the intercooler unless I am wrong. I really do not want to drill the hole if it is not going to fix my problems but considering my mileage and similar symptoms, it seems like it may be worth a shot. Any input is appreciated.

Remove the charge pipe from the IC to the TB. Jack the driver side front tire as high as you can get the car comfortable. Place some jackstands for safety. Vacuum out the IC with cheap vacuum from the top. That would be your best bet.

So that pipe connects from the TB to the top of the intercooler correct? I just want to make sure I don’t do anything wrong and possibly make the problem worse. I went into full detail of my issues including DCT’s in the maintenance and troubleshooting thread and any help from you experienced owners would be much appreciated.

Yep exactly that. Two clamps and a connector.

Drill an 1/8 NPT at the lowest point in a beefy part of the intercooler, and then thread a brass plug into it, and remove to blow out accumulated oil when needed. Common on early VW TDI issue of hot oil gasses condensing on the intercooler. Later TDIs have the superior water intercooler.

I had one for years without an issue. Just tapped it for bolt with a rubber washer. Easy to clean.
