Hi i'm trying to replace my set of Intake manifold couplers(the black rubber things with hose clamps on them on the top of your engine). Mine are pretty dry rotted and old and while i have the engine in pieces i want to get a new set. I've looked around and I only see them at Bittersweet SHO but they wont answer my emails so i'm a little weary. Anybody have another site or idea on where I can find a set of these or what materials/sizes I should use to make some ?

Thanks,

Joe

I went to a hose supply store and they cut me some 1.625 silicone hose in the same length as the stock coupler I took in. I only payed $20. They are a tight fit but they work fine. Same stuff BittersweetSHO sells for over $100!

Okay here are the exact measurements.

Crossover tube 2 at 2.127" in diameter. 2" would be tight; 2 1/4" would be loose.

Coupler at "Y" 1 at 2.286" in diameter. 2 1/4" would be perfect.

Secondary runners 6 at 1.691 in diameter. 1 5/8" would be tight 1 3/4" would be loose.

i went to the local hardware store and went into plumbing dept and found all the sizes i need. i believe they are plumbing couplers. the only thing you need to do is cut them down because they are to long but inner diameter is good. also they came with replacement clamps. all couplers for around 20 dollars.

Please be aware that even with the 49-state 3.0L SHO engine, the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system will expose the intake manifold to hydrocarbon vapors. There are rubber types that will not respond well to those molecules. I am following these topics as I will be in the market for a set to replace the rock-hard rubbers on my well-traveled intake during the 6th 60K in a few months. I have talked to SHOwners who have used coolant hoses of the required diameters to replace the couplers. No word on how they have held up. Keep an eye on the plumbing solution and let us know if they soften quickly.

You can get silicone hose in 2" and other sizes all day long on eBay.

I've also had success in rejuvenating hard rubber parts by soaking in Toluene till soft then soaking in Rislone oil treatment for 24 hrs.

I have had mine on for about 20k... no problems yet, and still as plyable as day 1.

One thing you can do for the HC's, well to lower them for the most part, would be to run a Catch Can. (as you allready know this Scott  , just stating the obvious)

Or, just stop running gas.... :bonk:

yeah i went to home depot and ace hardware and they didnt have the right sizes i needed. I looked on ebay and it was hard to get what i need without spending 100$ so i'm still in search of replacements for a reasonable price.

Well, i've diagnosed my intake manifold problems as the root cause of my 'rough idle'. After removing the intake, nearly ALL the runners show slight-to-severe cracks all along the couplers. I remember Blue-By-U running a hose kit that cost many people their money. Don't know if that ever was resolved... It seems like everyone wants an arm and a leg for these hose kits.

I'm awaiting the SHObros to get this project officially launched! :salute:

i got mine at menards if that helps. its in the plumbing section they dont look like regular couplers. you will have to cut them down because they are too long but they are the right diameter

We have a bunch of hoses in stock (and cut too), we just need to add them to our website. These hoses are sized so that you can re-use your stock clamps. We are also working on ALL stainless OEM-style clamps (the actual OEM are mixed plated/stainless) for those that want all new clamps, even if just for the stock parts.

Send me an e-mail if you are interested.
