Installing new rear brakes on a 91 sho and I have a question

The rear brakes are disc but how does the parking brake work? I am going to be reinstalling the brakes but I don't know how they work I have worked on rear drum brakes but not disc

The parking brakes use a cable that pulls on a spring loaded lever to push the pads against the rotor. Release the tension, pull the end of the cable off of the lever, and remove the E-clip that hold the cable on the caliper and you can do whatever you want with it. Reverse the procedure to reinstall.

You will need a small bake tool to "spin" the rear piston out of the cast assembly. The parts stores sell a universal cube with pins on each face, and one of those pin faces will work. The rears are a lot harder to work on.

the rotation of the lever turns an unusual looking screw that drives the piston outward. there are also some ball bearings inside the rear piston assembly. there is quite a bit more than just a piston inside the rears. and yes, to retrack, the piston is screwed/turned back in. open the bleeder to squirt the junk fluid out instead of back into the lines.
