I have a 1992 sho in need of inner tie rods.

I have a 1993 donor car with low mileage. Will the inner tie rods from the 1993 fit the 1992?

The only reason I'm asking is because the 1993 has VAPS and the 1992 does not.

Next question: I've searched the best I can, but could not find a write-up on how to replace them. From what I've heard, either the drivers or passenger side is in a difficult location.

Plus I heard that it helps to have a special tool that holds the rod from turning.

I looked in my helms manual, but it is not helpful. I'm guessing the average ford dealer mechanic knows how to replace these without referring to a manual.

If anyone has pictures or is willing to take the time to do a write-up, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!! Sincerely, Scott

The "Average dealership mechanic" will INSIST on dropping the subframe and removing the steering rack to replace them. This takes a 1.5 book hour job and turns it into a 7 book hour job. No guarantee that they don't just toss it in the air and use the same Autozone tool that everyone else at home can use, either, making a hefty profit in the process.

I'm not concerned what the dealer would charge to do the work.

I'm not taking it to the dealer. I'm interested in knowing what it takes to replace just the inner tie rods because I'm doing the work myself.

Will the 1993 rods fit properly on the 1992?

What "speciality" tools do I need to purchase to do the job myself.

Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Scott
