I am sort of in a bind here. I need to know on average what to expect to pay for labor costs to replace my inner tie rods and halfshafts. I would love to save the money and do it myself, but I do not have the time right now because of work. The car is wandering all over the place, and clicks and clunks when I turn, and I don't feel safe driving it like this. I need to get this done asap, but I don't want to get hosed at the shop. Does anyone know what I can expect?

I don't have my SLTS CD handy, but in real-world time you're talking about probably a ~2 hour project. I suspect book time would be more like 3 or 4 hours.

The job isn't that bad from what I hear. It looks like I have found someone that will be able to the job for me here in the area that isn't going to charge me too much.

Goto Shotimes.com. Then goto the care and feeding section, then suspension and steering, then click the link Tie Rod Ends and their Replacement. Gives you a good idea of what to do. This was the first job I ever did on any car and it only took me a couple of hours.

It is an easy job if its the driver side and you don't have the kind of inners that flair out just before the hex so that the autozone rental tool wont slip over the hex. If you do then you need a special tool that Lisle makes and it will set you back 50.00. Dont forget to count how many turns it takes to get it off and only tighten the new one that much, even then you may still need an alignment afterwards.
