Well for starters i have been a SHO FAN since its inception in `89, loved the sleek design and have marvelled from afar the speed and have always wanted one, well my wish came true about three weeks ago when i won one at the auction.

My dillemma: i have looked exhaustively for something along the lines of a CHILTONS for the DIYer in me to no avail, do not know about this cam welding procedure every body talks about but none of my mechs know about, i have a gen 3 with 99xxx miles on it, a 98 and when i got it the alternator was frozen on it snapping my belt off when i tried to start it, plus it has a bad driver side tierod

questions???? where do i find a chiltons ?, what is cam welding and is it highly important? where can i find superior but relatively cheap parts

any info will be APPRECIATED

You can find a Chiltons or Haynes at places like Autozone, Advance Auto or here. The cam welding procedure is very important. The V8 SHOs have a problem with the cam sprockets coming off causing a lot of internal engine damage. Welding them will fix that problem. Depending on what part of Minnesota you are in you can go to Performance Plus in Madison, WI and ask about the cam welding. Most mechanics don't know about the procedure. A lot don't know much about SHOs in general to begin with. SHO parts are never cheap, so you're out of luck there.

i did go to the local auto zones and the chiltons i saw there didnt support the SHO so it was pretty useless for me and that is what i met with every where i went to, as far as the cam welding is there a way to find out if it has been welded already????? so i can save money not having it looked at again or do i have to take it in anyways, like i said earlier i got this gen 3 from an auction and i really dont know how to find out about this, PLUS it is at 99000 miles, do i still need to get r done???

You can get the Chiltons book from a book store like barns and noble but i dont thank that it will have any thing on the cam welding. Look around on the internet places like www.rockauto.com has some parts for cheap sometimes, Other wise auto zone or advance auto parts.

Congrats on the purchase first of all.

You can find a chiltons at any book store, Ebay, almost anywhere, there is not a SHO specific manual, you just have to get a Taurus one. It won't say a thing about welding the cams in it.

At 99,000 miles welding the cams is more important than ever, your driving on borrowed time. I would be willing to bet good money the cams are not welded. There is no way to tell if its been done or not without ripping it apart, but a nice benefit is you can do a 100,000 mile tune-up while its apart. Don't let anyone do this, check on www.v8sho.com and find a place from there.

As far as parts, check Ebay, compare prices at Auto Stores, and post want to buys on this forum or shoclub.com

Good luck!
