Man, I'm having the worst year already I can't even tell you. Yesterday when I was driving home from work, my belt started squealing pretty bad and I JUST replaced the belt about 2 weeks ago, and yes I tensioned it properly and tightened the nut on the tensioner pretty tight. Anyway, long story short, I heard a noise as if a piece of metal dropped off the car somewhere and it turned out to be the tensioner pulley. I found the pulley, but theres like this plate that goes in the front of it that the nut goes in front of that I can't find, and I also cant find the nut. Since both have been discontinued, theres only 2 ford dealers in the entire country that have the nut and NO ONE has the plate. Does anyone here have a spare or any suggestions?? I'm gonna go and cry now...

I threw a pully a little while back on my 91.

I replaced it with a lower idler of a 3.2 and went to home depot to get the nut and a locking washer.

m12 comes to mind. it is a 17mm nut.

at least your timing belt pulley didnt come loose like mine. The funny thing is, i swear i tightened it down well. oh well, i guess that just means im using a lock washer this time.

Luke, give me a listing offline of what you need, or call me tomorrow while I'm at the shop, as I may have what pulley parts you're looking for (alt, ps, timing belt, whatever). Can overnight as early as Monday if necessary.

Thanks Fred, I really appreciate it man but I gave Al Fitz a call and he's sending one my way. I also have a friend with an incapacitated SHO thats going to let me borrow his tensioner pulley until I get the one Al is sending me. You're the man, though, Fred I really appreciate the offer! hail

SHODOG220,

When you put the tensioner pulley on this time THINK LOCK-NUT. You could also drill a hole in the mounting stud and put in a cotter pin. Either way the nut will not come off again.

With an engine that is commonly run in the 5000+ RPM range this kind of insurance is a necessity, IMHO. I do not like things falling off while I am moving! rangerj

I don't recall a lock washer on my timing belt tensioner pulley ...is there supposed to be one that came stock on there, or is it just a good idea to add one?

Rockledge,

No there is not a lock washer on the stock tensioner pulley set-up. There is a washer that serves as a "thrust" washer and the nut.

I us a "lock nut" in place of the stock nut. It will not loosen, nor would it back off on it's own if it did loosen.

You can also use a "friction" style nut. These have a nylon insert on the top of the nut that is friction fitted to the threads of the stud or bolt. This type of fastener would also give you added insurance against a "spin-off". rangerj

thanks ranger. I actually used some blue loctite and so far its been working good. My friend Mike(shotimeV6) had this same thing happen to him and thats what he did when he put the nut back on.
