finally got the surge tank removed and the one coil got installed ( BIG UPS TO MY GUY SILVAPAIN FOR WALKING ME THROUGH THIS, IN CERTAIN CIRCLES U R A GOD), now right after i installed everything back to its normal status i took her on the road and i immediately pulled the following SES codes

P0304
P0340
P0354
P0350
now here is the thing, i know what these codes are, i kinda looked em up and i am a little puzzled. firstoff, error code p0304 is a cylinder misfire in # 4which did not give any problems prior to the initial install. p0354 and 350 are telling me of an ignition malfunction, at what bank????? and p0340 is a camshaft pos sensor problem, i dont even know where this is. it seems like any time i fix one problem on this bugger, 8 more arise in its place but damn it i am hooked to it like a smooooth cognac and i am not letting go so some out there plssssss help

ps: appeal to my warden of a wife to allow me to keep this toy as when it works it brings so much joy and happiness to my life.

Which coil did you replace? Did you remove any of the other ones? Do you have problems when it's running? Is it possible that these are stored codes and you replaced the wrong coil?

it showed that bank 3 was bad so i changed that coil, now i plug it back in and now it is telling me 4 is now bad. i did not even touch 4 at all. it certainly runs smoother after the #3 coil change but i still get the othner ses codes

Hmmm well it's not unheard of for others to go bad in short order. I wonder if there's any leaks during reinstall? I bit the bullet and replaced all the rear coils and plugs when i pulled the surge tank. Sure hit me in the wallet though.

Did you insulate the coil wire loom under the surge tank?

does this mean wrapping electrical tape around the wires? if so then it was already done, they look pretty insulated to me except were it bends to plug into the coils, the outer cover has cracked due to age

If they are the OEM coils in the back and you have one fail it's my opinion to just change all 4 because the rest won't be far behind. Most replacement coils are better than the original coils that came from the factory as far as not failing.

Autozone coils work well. Replace all of them, funds permitting. You cant tell em apart from Ford OEM minus the motorcraft insignia. If you are absolutely desperate you could use F150 coils from the same year of our V8 SHOs. Yes, they may have only one mounting point and are a little long but thats nothing that a pair of wire snips and a little inginuity could't fix!...we SHors can all agree upon on-the-fly repairs. Yes try insulating the rear coil bank wire harness, damn that thing cooks and it is expensive to replace.

The tape drys up and cracks allowing the wire to do the same. When this happens the wires to the coils start shorting against the cam-cover causing the 350 or 354 codes since the ECU is getting a direct short. Most of us use some sort of "heat" wrap (used header wrap on mine) after making sure the individual wires were wrapped in tape then wrapped together for added insurance. I held the header wrap in with cable ties.
