how hard is this to take out? what i really need to do is take off that black piece that the key goes into. can that come off seperately because i need to install that black wire that plugs into the the ignition, but in order to put the wire in i need to take off the plastic steering column shrowd but that black piece (what u put the key into) on the ignition tumbler is hindering the process. by the way is that wire needed? thanks for all your help.

The cylinder is easy to take out.

1.Disconnect the battery
2.Turn key to run position.
3.Using a small (~1/8") drill bit upside down push up in the small hole in the column shroud under the cylinder.
4.Take cylinder out.

You confuse me with the other question.

I'm a little confused about the last part too. The plastic where you put your fingers to turn to start the car is a part of the ignition cylinder. It doesn't seperate from the piece.
