I just redid the rear brakes on my 89 SHO (no ABS). The rears were only using half the pads, the slide pins were not sliding. In fact I had to use a vise, torch and lots of hammer just to get them out. I cleaned the holes and bought all new pins, as well as anything else rubber or worn.

While under there I noticed all the brake lines ran through a funky looking part. It attaches to my rear suspension. I am not sure what it does, but as it is currently set I don't think it does anything. The lever with the spring attaches to my rear suspension. As it is currently set moving the suspension from full up to full down will not move the lever.

I have my guesses, but that's all they are. Anyone know what it is?

I looked at the exploded drawings at AllData and could not find it.

LSPV....Load Sensing Proportioning Valve. It's where the Bias Plugs go.

Thanks!

With the name I was able to do some research and it seems that by installing MOOG Cargo Coils and KYB struts in the rear I pretty much voided the thing anyway. I will leave it in it's non-functional state.

if you compress that spring, the valve will let more brake fluid through to the brakes. This valve is also the reason your rear brakes are barely worn! They allow hardly any fluid to go to your rear brakes. How do you fix this, you say?

This is how.

Be forewarned, though. These are NOT recommended for non-ABS cars, which yours is. You're an adult, though; you can make your own decisions :).

So if I zip tie the lever down I can get more fluid to the rear? I could do some test braking in a parking lot both ways to see if I notice any difference.

is there a way to "tamper" with that sensor so we can bleed the rear brakes quicker (trick it into thinking that the suspension is normal and not extended)?

Where can I buy a new proportioning valve BESIDES from the ford dealer. I can get the part for cost but they still want like 90 bucks. Any alternatives?
