Hey guys,
I was just wondering if anybody has ever thought of (or actually done it) smoothing their front "grill" area by removing the Ford emblem and filling in the holes?? I just thought that this would look pretty sweet and give people that "What kind of car was that??" thought. But, I don't know if this would restrict airflow to the radiator and create cooling issues or not. Any thoughts on this topic, or suggestions on how to do it are welcome.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking (not actual picture of car, I changed it to what I think it would look like)

Honestly, most of the airflow to the radiator isn't coming through those dinky little holes around the Ford emblem. It helps, but not that much. That's why there's an air deflector UNDER the radiator, to "scoop" & direct the air to the rad.

Actually, I'm inclined to think that a fair amount of air does come through there. A few weeks ago, we had an ice storm here that covered everything with a 1" layer thick of ice. I noticed that the fan kept turning on as the temp kept rising towards the upper half of the guage. Then after I got out and de-iced the hole, all was back to normal...
You may want to consider that, if you were gonna mack a change, I'd still plumb some kind of opening in to your equation

I remember John(DeconBlue) saying that his car ran a little warmer just from having the bra on his car. It doesn't completely close off the hole but does cover about two thirds of it. So I would think that completely closing it off would make it run even warmer yet.

There was a picture in an old issue of SHO Club of a SHO that had some custom work done to that area, I'll see if I can find it.

I cant really see that picture to well. Do you want to keep the opening intact and just remove the ford logo, or fill the whole damn thing in?

Filling it in would **** your airflow. Just shaving the logo would look kinda like this....

yeah I planned on filling in the whole thing, but I was afraid that would **** my airflow. Oh well, I never really planned on doing it anyways, but I do like the idea of shaving the Ford logo. Thanks for the pic Kevin! thumbs_u

This picture is on shotimes. He was at the Ohio and Atlanta conventions, but I don't remember his name. As far as air coming through the holes on the Gen 2, the headlight mounting panel is behind the "grill" and has 2 small holes in it that they air can pass through, but they aren't even lined up with the grill opening.

I've always thought of this for an idea. Ok here it is. If you look at right, you can kinda see that it is like one big giant oval. So, it might look kinda neat to have like one big Yamaha badge or something. Any Photoshoppers?? And maybe even if you dont wanna lose airflow, you could get some kinda way to underline the Yamaha with the line being hollow. Either way it might be kind of neat. What do you guys think?

That was the picture I was talking about. Here's another different idea:

I think it would look better if it was slotted more like the Police grill though.

I've been wanting to do that. More of the slotted grill style. Nook was willing to help me make up a punch for it to pass around for people to use but the 2 people that mailed me didn't make the price worthwhile.
