ey i was going to buy a car for the motor. very nice motor, but when i was looking at the car everything checked out except for that the car was left outside with no hood on it. just a car cover over the engine. then we looked under the car cover and noticed that there was ice in the intake and exhaust holes. my question is how much damage if any can that cause?

Are you saying there was no intake on it and there was ice in there? You have to make more sense. What intake and exhaust holes? I am lost.

actually they might be just intake holes mainly cause its the holes that are at the top of the heads that connect to the intake manifold. the same holes that people stick rags in so that they dont get stuff in them while changing the intake manifold gaskets. thoses holes had ice in them.

Ok if the intake is off and there are holes present they are all intake holes. And if there is ice in there I wouldn't touch that motor with a 10 foot pole.

Well...How long was it sitting like that?? How much ice??? Was it solid, or just little more than frost? Check it again when it "defrosts"...get it in a warm garage and let the ice melt. Dump the water laden oil and leave the plug off, check the amount of water in the oil....This may sound drastic, but as a last resort, water soaked electronic devices that you can't take apart, can be given an alcohol bath to displace the water, and prevent rust. But, I wouldn't give a plugged nickel until I heard it run.

If it had standing water in it, the valve springs have probably started rusting and corrosion has probably started taking over the surrounding areas.
