... There is no way to make an ATX reliable AND fast [snip].

fixed

you can make an ATX fast

you can spend lots of coin on the transmission upgrades

it will still chew through transmissions like a dog taste testing all the shoes by the front door

Do you want to STOMP on ricers and Mustangs? Add supercharger then replace tranny when it blows.
Do you want to be seen as having a respectably fast car but not win every time? Drive as-is and do the maintenance.
Do you want to beat a fast 5.0 Mustang all the time without adding a supercharger?
1. Sell SHO
2. Buy faster Mustang

Cheapest way to go fast in a straight line is going to be a dry shot zex kit.

Spray it.

You can start by getting a hold of sho #7, he can help you build a strong transmission... It's going to cost you.. but can be done....2nd, leave the supercharger and turbo off.... or only if you have 3 grand a year to blow of transmissions! Put nitrous to it, and build one **** of a NA motor!

Out of the hole....huh, I seem to be the one running out of the hole pretty good, Ask the guy that see tailights! ( will remain name less)! Oh and the other guy that will remain name less as well, seems we where neck an neck! huh so is the atx really that bad? because it seems that I've been keeping up with mtx's but oh well....there slow lol

Flame suit on, and have thick skin..bash away!

Get a second pair of slicers and mount a small diameter, but sticky tire for your "Saturday Night Special" night outs. Try to find a tire diameter that will give you an effective final ratio of about 4.00 to 1. It will be somewhat expensive, but it will give you the low end that you don't have now. Don't run for money, because you won't have a high end anymore. And reinstall your regular tires on Sunday morning, as you will go broke feeding it.

Why that's what they make the 3.99 gearing mod for! You can do that when your rebuilding the transmission... So you wouldn't need the smaller tires! just some sticky tires, would do!

Honestly,my MTX really does move with just a y-pipe and an exhaust impressed with it and so is everybody who drives in it..

However i gave up on modding the SHO i went with a different platform..1987 T/A spent $5,000 dropped a crate engine and bam im at 400hp no headaches.

OMG, don't even bring up that time when it was raining with my bald ass tires... and no lining on my 2nd gear, I was feathering that throttle all the way to 60 and you know it cause u let off when I grabbed third.. :p If that's "keeping up" then ok. Man I miss those trips to Mexico. But seriously after 10 years driving an MTX, I know 8 times out of 10 I'm gunna hurt your feelings, Mr "I like to stand on the brake at the light".... lol even with your "noob launch assist" I'm still gunna smoke ya.

You seem to forget that little puff of pure gasoline vapor out my tail pipes when I hit 4th that day coming back from Matt's... I think you forgot how far behind me you were... if thats what you call keeping up ok....

And yea a clutch won't last quite 150K if someone drives it like a crazy person, but at $500 for a good clutch kit, I could buy 5 for 1 ATX. I replaced the origional at 120, then again at 180ish, and when I rebuilt it, I tossed on a new flywheel, and tossed on a new disc but kept the PP. Granted this is only cheaper if I'm the one replacing it..so that does come into play a bit too.

LOL.... I wasn't even counting that! However I was counting the time coming back from Matt's! I don't know it's pretty dead nuts, until I hit 3rd  What's with the launching...... You guys can do it! What is it not fair? I seem to get in 2nd gear pretty quick? Hurt my feelings, NO just keep me hungry on the big prize!

Oh and yeah.... But he wants it to haul-ass, So I thought that was going to almost be at the top! He better make it a tweecer RT, However I'd just use the car for what's known for.... Touring Sedan!

If you rememeber, we both took off... then I eased off the gas so you could catch up to my door, then I stepped on it. lol

All that stuff aside.... IMO, that SHO is about the hardest car of any to launch correctly.

Can you tell me more about this gearing mod for automatic transmissions?

I have only had manual transmission SHO's, but I am not a big defender of them. I started with an early one and stuck with them because I found out that the parts are not too interchangable between Standards and Automatics. I am getting a little tired of changing clutches and throw out bearings. My next (if ever) SHO will be an automatic because there are way more of them to choose from, and I think an automatic should launch better than a manual. There is no sneaky lauch, with a standard, from a stop light.
