I bought a Fidanza flywheel and I think I got the wrong one. I called Findanza tech but they were closed for the day.

The insert only measures 9.5" across. The part number on the box is 186301(which is correct) and F12-5578 is engraved on the aluminum. Did Fidanza ever make a flywheel for the 9.25" clutch? Does anyone have a Fidanza laying around to check what number is engraved on your flywheel? Thanks a bunch!

IIRC, the 9.75" clutch disk does hang off on the sides, although I cant be sure. Maybe try a search?

Yes, the clutch does overhang the 9.5" dia. Kirk Doucette brought his to have the edge turned just a little, so the clutch wouldn't catch that edge as it wore. Ask him how much he took off, what dia. he went out, etc. - he seems to be happy with his.

According to http://www.shonutperformance.com/HDClutch.htm it should be 246mm OD, mine appears to be 240-241mm. So something is definitely wrong here. I emailed Fidanza, hopefully I'll get a reply in the morning.

The stock clutch hangs over the insert because it is actually 9 13/16" and the insert is supposed to be 9.75". So it only hangs over 1/32" on any given side. I'm looking at more like 1/8".

There was an issue (last year?) with the wrong bolt holes or threads or something, but I haven't heard of a mis-ship since.

5mm would be noticeable, however (for those in the US, that's about .197"). :)

Does anyone know how much to take off to get it to work correctly. I have done two clutch jobs and resurfaced it once. THought it was the clutch, but it still chatters. How much of the diameter needs to be ground to make it the correct diameter.

clutch disc would still be overhanging the center section of the flywheel, but as the disc wears it'll take longer before it makes contact with the outer ring if you turn the step in there.

As for chatter... spoke with someone tonight with the 8lb flywheel who said it took 8k miles before the chatter stopped.

Fidanza doesn't have a 9.75" insert because it's not a standard size. Our 9.75" clutch is an oddball size. Ditto for the Unorthodox racing flywheel...9.5" insert. You can confirm this with Southbend clutch. He'll tell you all about it. The metal insert is going to wear so slow that I really can't see the clutch overhand eating into the aluminum being a big deal. The steel is always going to be supporting that clutch disc with just a wee bit o force wisking away at the aluminum in a gentle fashion.
