HI. i have a 1993 MTX with 117k on it. it runs great, but when you first are hitting the gas. it sounds like an exhaust leak somewhere under the middle of the car. we put her on a lift and the mechanic found no leak and is saying he cant hear anything. you can feel it in the pettle itself. until about 2000 rpm's then it seems to go away. can anyone help. i know its hard sense you cant hear it yourself, but any feedback would be great. it feels like a sputter but the engine itself sounds great. thanks -DAN

If it happens right when you step on the gas, it might be the spring-bolt-loaded ****** that's warping and leaking.

Put the hood up, and engage the e-brake. Shift into first and while keeping the revs up so as not to **** the engine, slowly engage the clutch. Does the front end of the engine move up more than about an inch? If it does, your front motor mount is shot, and may be the root cause of the exhaust leak.

The mechanic can't see it because it's up on a lift, and you can't put it in gear and put stress on the mount up there...

Yes you can, Hold the brake in first gear.
Disengaging the clutch at idle should give the engine enough movement to move the exhaust line.

but its doing it without touching the clutch. just reving it up makes the noise.

Ok, but if the leak is coming from a gasket, making the engine move will make the leak more noticable. Plus, if it's a bad motor mount that caused the said gasket to wear down, you'll see it.
