You take the tire off, the you take out 2 bolts that hold the caliper in place. (The heads of these bolts are located facing the inside of the fenderwell. These bolts I do believe are also called your slider pins as they have rubber boots on them and slide.) Use a screw driver or something and pry the caliper out of the holding bracket. (If needed) and then your brake pads should either A) Fall to the ground or B) are stuck to the caliper.

Where you located in Ohio?

I dont think you really need to remove the slider pins to remove the brake pads. In my experience with taurus front brakes (95 GL) all you have to do is remove the caliper to spindle bolts, then movethe caliper braket off of the spidle/hub thing and rotor. Then slide the bracket and caliper until they line up. Pop out the old pads. Depress the caliper cylinder back into the caliper using some wood blocks and a c clamp. Be sure and slide the boots over the caliper pins back and get some sort of brake grease under there, then slide them open and closed a few times...those buggers will corrode and seize up if not greased properly: they are a nightmare to loosen if this happens and new caliper pins will likely be necessary. Then just slide the new pads in with some sort of anti squeal on the backs and put them over the rotor. They dont really click into place or anything...if they arent in the right place you wont be able to put the caliper bracket back over the rotor. It is intuitive. Then just put the bolts (braket to spindle) back in with some locktite. Im sure I left something out, but i really dont think removing the caliper pins in necessary for putting new pads in. ohh yeah...shile you are working on the caliper and it is free, dont let it dangle. Put some zipties from a sturdy part of the braket to the spring or some sort of handy suspension piece...wouldnt want to break the fluid lines! Good luck. :thumb: Ohh and this is only for fron pads! doing the rears requires this horrific little tool for twisting the caliper cylinder back into the caliper. Those are a pain in the a$$.

89-93 brakes are different. There are no caliper brackets. The slider pins must be removed to remove the caliper, and to remove the pads.

Dave is correct. I just did a brake job on my old 91. I had to remove both slider pins, to get the caliper off the rotor. Once off, the pads popped right out, I put on a new rotor, threw in some nice pads, and away I went. Real easy job. Aslong as you have those torx bits. I think it was like a T40 or T45 I used, can't quite remember.

T-40 unless the front sliders have been replaced with autozone junk then it could be 10mm socket. Or if they have been replaced with the oversized thread sliders due to stripping 10mm. Seems the PO of my car stripped one on each knuckle so mine were a mix of T-40 and 10mm.
