This weekend I changed my timing belt amongst a few other things. I had the 60K video. I followed that and when I took off the timing belt the marks weren't lined up. Once the timing belt was off I turned the camshaft pulleys to line them up and also the crank. I then put in the timing belt with all the marks lined up. After talking to few people I got the impression my car is not going to start headbang . I havent tried to start it because I ran out of time. Somebody tell I didn't mess up, but if I did oh how can I get the right timing. Thanks

auto or manual?

when I removed my belt to replace the waterpump on my ATX, all I did was line up the cams and crank, slap the belt back in and replace the tensioner...

IF the cams were at noon, and the crank was a 4 Oclock lined up on all the marks.

And the 3 white lines on the belt match up with the marks on the gears your all set.

The only problem is that I think that I might have turn the camshafts 1 or more full turns because when I was trying to line them up it would springly turn past it.

Doesn't matter.

You can spin them until the cows come home as long as you put them in the correct spot before installing the belt.

Sounds like you did fine. Just remember, the white lines will likely only line up once, at the intial belt installation.

Check the link in my sig for the front 60k guide. If you followed those steps you should be all set. By the way, the marks on the belt are never lined up when you take the belt off. Think about it, one full turn for the engine is not one full turn for the belt. See what I mean?

ya the sho engine is a noninterference engine so you really dont have to worry about bent valves.

Yep like Steve said, sounds like you did it fine. One of the camshafts will tend to spring out of position (the rear one) because the when aligned with the timing mark the tip of one (maybe more?) of the cams is balancing on the shim and if you turn it too much to one side the cam sprocket will spring out of position (the cam lobe tip actually rolls off the tip and onto it's side). As long as the timing mark on the cam sprockets were aligned with the rear timing cover and the crank was aligned with the timing mark you will be all set. Start her up and see how see sounds! :)

Like mentioned, the SHO engine is non-interference. That means that even if your timing belt is way off, the valves will not hit the pistons. That's good.

So, no, not really. It will run like crap though. And you don't want to go running it like that for more than a few minutes, not sure what it would do but it's not meant to do that.

welcome to the forum. Dont worry. I felt the same way on my first timing belt. You have all this crap taken apart and you arent sure it was such a hot idea taking on the job.

Read that 60k link.....and make sure you torque that crank bolt on tight per torque specs.
