I know much of this may have been covered before but, I did a search and all I am finding is more questions. First off, does anyone know of any good websites or books with good information about turbos in general? I know many suggest a t3/t04 for use on the SHO and I know those numbers mean compressor and housing sizes but as far as what the numbers mean I am clueless. I've been trying to search the internet for hours and haven't found any good hard info. Basically, the reason I ask is I just got it in me to get some more power out of my recently acquired 93'. I have had one of the first runs of the Bittersweet SHO turbo piping kit that I picked up for next to nothing and I also have a DSM sidemount that I got for free from a friend into those cars. I am going for a low boost setup (9PSI or less). I think I can get away with stock injectors, stock long block etc. I do have a Tweecer for tuning purposes and know I will need a larger MAF, need to relocate the MAF (before the turbo) and construct an intake for the turbo. As far as installing the hardware and fabricating pieces I have no trouble. Where I have trouble is knowing fundimentals of turbocharged engines and how everything works completely. I only know the basics for turbocharged motors but as far as what else I will need besides the norm (turbo, plumbing, BOV,wastegate) I am utterly and completely clueless. Please help me. I am really looking to keep this low boost (as I look at the turbo piping it doesn't seem like it will really flow great for anything higher anyways but it will serve me for what I need), lower budget, and I have many friends into DSM's and SRT's as well as a huge DSM specialty shop locally that can get anything turbo related and at awsome prices. Please lead me in the right direction. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

If you have blown 4 diff's so far, you need a Quaife WAY before a turbo.

Well that's all fine and good except looking to not spend 1200.... I have spares so if I blow one I blow one... this first setup is going to be a practice run to see how it all works and comes together... then next time serious power will be attained.
[SARCASM=SHOracer14]Thanks for the suggestion though I never thought of that! [/SARCASM]

You will need to upgrade the injectors. I know the SHO injectors max out over 300hp and wehn tyler did the M90 swap he maxed them out easy.

But I already have a car with a supercharger and I've already experimented with nitrous so it's time to try something new.

If you don't like hearing about a 1200 dollar Quaiffe, you're definitely not ready to start taking notes on turbocharging a SHO.

I say just buy ANY turbo, working or not, and bolt/baling wire it in. You can then say you have a turbo'd SHO.

Maximum Boost by Corky Bell is a good beginners introduction to forced induction, but it's a little long in the tooth. Turbo technology has come a long way in the past 5 years.

I know that I SHOULD have a quaife to make sure the tranny holds together.... I am just trying to put together a little experiment to see if I can do it. Again, I want to see if I can do it because if I can get it to run pretty good then I will go to the extreme and spend lotsa cash on a car that is worth spending the cash on. I'm not talking a complicated setup I am just looking for some guidlines. I know I've needed a quaife since I blew diff nuimber 2 so that's been covered so I don't have to hear about that anymore. I guess I'll be happy with some basic guidlines... lots of my parts will be free anyways or next to nothing as previously stated I have lots of friends with lots of turbo junk. I'm not going for a brand new everything immaculate setup. THIS IS PRACTICE! I mostly want to get my tuning skills up to par.

If you do build it, between my dysfunctional SHO and your car, Toledo will be the turbo SHO capital of Ohio. Go Ohio!!!

Saturday huh, I just so happen to have that day off. might be a nice day for a ride around town in the SHO.

I'd like to see that bitersweet kit too, the pictures he had on ebay may not do it justice.

At the very least, reinforce your stock diff.
Don't worry Beth has hooked me up in the past so I will probably have her do another one for me.

OK, I've been studying many maps over the past couple days but still haven't decided on what to get. Basically it's going to be whats available for cheap and closest to what I want. I also have lots of other decisions to make. I am beginning to think I want to run a DV (diverter valve) instead of a BOV as I hear it works much better on cars with MAF's. With a BOV letting metered air go into the atmosphere I am assuming it would run a bit rich. I think using a DV will make tuning a bit easier. Also, Internal vs. External wastegates... I suppose that decision will be made again depending upon what kind of turbo I can find and if it has an internal or not. Internal will be more cost effect and I planned on using a manual boost controller no matter what. Also, for those of you with turbo setups, are you just tapping the oil pan and running a secondary (inline style) pump for the oil to the turbo? I am going to go with a small intercooler but lt looks as though I will be best to ditch the DSM side-mount and go with a front mount with the inlet and outlet on the same side as it will be much easier for me to plumb. I think I already have a decision on how the exhaust will be setup. Considering the DP I already have is 2.5" and the exhaust I have is 2.5" I'm just gonna connect it to my current catback and then run a dump when I want to get a bit more serious. As far as the turbo goes though it looks like the least expensive and easiest to find are t3/t4's and it looks like something in a "middle of the road" trim level would be optimal for what I want to do. I know there are some tables to figure out what would work best on your vehicle that figures in displacement and many other variations at sea level. Does anyone have a link for those equations?

when i was planning a turbo instal a t3/t4 was definately the one i was going to get. was recomended to me by many. id go with that, but i just gave up on the project until i have plenty of money. i could do it now, but just barely, and i know things will start breaking and cant afford that right now.
