My son and I bought some extra key fobs for our cars. Instructions provided only go back to 1995, we have 1993's. Is it the same process to program these?

Turn Ignition to on position. In the trunk on the left side under the carpet is an open two pin connector. Jump those two pins with a paperclip or similar. While it's jumped push any button on all of the fobs that you want to program. You'll hear the RKEM click after each fob is programed. When all fobs are done turn the Ignition off and then remove the jumper. The fobs should all work now.

Interesting, I bought mine, a specific car that they got from another dealer because it didn't have full leather and didn't have the sunroof, without knowing there was a key remote available. I have always used the key or the keypad. Was this available on '92? Does anyone know if that was a separate module or would there be one just "in there"?

Wasn't available in 92. Started in 93. There are different modules based on whether the car just has the door keypad or the keypad and keyless. It can have the keypad and not have keyless but it cannot have keyless without the keypad.

Keyless entry can be added by wiring in the Remote Keyless Entry Module(RKEM) in place of the Door Pad Module. There are threads here that discuss what to do.

I tried to program my sons new key fobs. He has the same 93 ATX but no keypad. His current remote didn't work at all so he bought a couple of new ones. I checked behind the carpet in the trunk and didn't see any open connector to jump. My car has the keypad and remote and was very easy. Would his connector be located somewhere else since he has no keypad?

I posted a link above that says in the 93, its behind the glove box. Try looking there. Did your son's car have a remote before?

Does his car have a keyless entry module mounted behind the rear seat. From the trunk it will be in the upper left corner mounted to the seat. A little black box with 2 or 3 pigtails coming out of it. If he doesn't have that box then he doesn't have keyless entry.

I don't think it can have keyless entry without the keypad on the door.

When I checked the trunk drivers side he didn't have the gray connector with the open end like my car. His car doesn't have the keypad but did come with key fob.

Any luck behind the glove box. Once you open it, you can squeeze the two sides towards each other until the rubber bumpers clear the edges. The glove box then pivots down and you can see behind it.

Does he have a Keyless Entry Module? In the trunk on the upper left side of the rear seat. Black box with 2 or 3 pigtails. Verifying this, yes or no, will determine if it has keyless entry or not. The fact that it came with fobs doesn't mean anything if they didn't work to begin with.
