i'll post my receipts later on with a few photos
i used up a bit over a tank and a quarter of gas driving 1000km (i probably lost a bit mashing the pedal all the way leaving rest stop onramps and a couple of 100mph passes)

btw steve american gas is better than what we are getting at petro check your datalog for the amount of knocking due the ethanol amount

I checked on Petro-Canada's website and apparently in Canada, they need to add at least 5% of ethanol for environmental reasons. They say that there is between 5 and 10% in their gas. I believe that Petro offers the best quality of gas in Quebec, but I now wonder if it would be more performant (not only mileage but power) with American gas...

Most stations in US have Ethanol Blends.... Especially in Midwest where there is an ethanol plant on every corner! LOL... Next to a Wind Farm!!!!!!

In fact, the Magellan Pipeline facility in Mankato, MN had a BIG issue with adding way too much ethanol to their fuel this past week. It's shut down, and they are recalling all their products... Unfortunately... can you imagine what might have happened to some vehicles... Currently all the gas for a around 100 mi radius is coming from the big terminal here in Clear Lake. And... I almost bought fuel in MN yesterday, which would have definitely been BAD....

Impossible. Last year we took the SHO on a 4k trip from central PA to Houston and back. Aired up the tires to 39 PSI and the best we got (all interstate) was a hair over 26 MPG. That was running radar cruise as long as possible at 75 or so. 3 people down, 2 on the way back.

There is no way you're getting 40MPG in a SHO. Maybe if you disconnect and remove the AWD and replace the 3.5 with an EcoBoost 4 banger but that's doubtful. She's a great car but she's also a porker.

we never used the radar cruise and running better gas than your poor car will ever see

next road trip is soon to quebec city, so i'll try to pick up a scan gauge 2 in time to shove into some faces with photos
i'm expecting 33-35mpg due to fuel quality and higher speeds might be stuck with 91 octane along the way

on a side note my receipts and calculations are being held by the gf at her house (she doesn't want me to post the receipts as they contain credit card numbers she says)

I also have ran about a month's worth of premium through the SHO and saw a negligible increase in MPG. Definitely not enough to offset the cost of premium. I've got the data logs from my tracking program, aCar (android app) to prove it. You can see the attached PDF. You'll notice our long trip last year - end of June where I was filling up 1-2x a day. Best we got was 23 MPG and that was 99% highway with only stops for eating and fuel.

And I still call BS on your mileage claims. Ain't no way a 4500 lb car is getting 45MPG. Even on 100% pure gasoline (no Ethanol). If that's the case you better call Ford because they will want to market the living stink out of you and your car.

Look, I love my SHO but there is no way this car is getting better fuel economy than a Fiesta. Especially while having AWD and weighing as much as 2 Fiestas.

variables how do they work :snicker:

so you never ran premium fuel on the road trip you did

you aren't running full synthetic oil

you don't have an intake or K&N air filter

you didn't fill to 40psi warm

and you most likely were driving a lot faster than me burning more fuel

another person in this thread already confirmed 36mpg

research hypermiling

go take better care of your car, learn to be very patient on a long road trip and I'm sure you'll agree to this gas mileage :naughty:

p.s. BPD is definately right

Yeah as I saw no difference in my daily commute and also a highway trip thrown in there. So it would make no difference on a long trip.

you aren't running full synthetic oil

Negligible impact on MPG at the thinness we use in these cars.

you don't have an intake or K&N air filter

No impact. If anything it's worse for your engine as K&N has been known to let more dust into the engine.

http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html
http://www.autoblog.com/2005/09/07/how-well-do-k-n-air-filters-work/

And it's been long debunked that on a modern car a dirty air filter harms MPG.

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...-economy-save-money-on-gas/overview/index.htm

you didn't fill to 40psi warm

No, I did better than you at 39PSI cold which would be 44 PSI or so warm.

and you most likely were driving a lot faster than me burning more fuel

Again 65-80, depending on the traffic conditions.

another person in this thread already confirmed 36mpg

Here is the actual quote:

If you convert my 36.x mpg's (Imperial) to your gallons - you get a tad over 30 mpg's (US gallon) -- you're pretty well spot on to mine.

research hypermiling

I have, thanks.

go take better care of your car, learn to be very patient on a long road trip and I'm sure you'll agree to this gas mileage :naughty:

I do take great care of my car. It gets the gas it needs, fluids are changed as needed, it gets washes and waxes when it's dirty.

I think you need to stop implying that I don't know what I am doing (I do) and that I don't take care of my car (I do) and put up some #'s. I've laid my data out for everyone to see. Now it's your turn.

Just to add this in. I went from where I live in the eastern panhandle of WV, to central WV...300ish miles each way, through the mountains. I averaged around 26mpg with cruise set anywhere between 65-75.

I had reset the mileage thing as I was coasting down a hill, and actually got it show 94.3 mpg...

LOL, check it on the other side of the hill and it'll be like 2.

Again, put up or shut up. It's really simple - show some data. None of your "variables" add up to a 15+ MPG difference. None of them. Sorry to hurt your feelings, but that's the facts. But don't say your car violates the laws of physics.

I call them like I see them. If you can't handle the fire, get out of the kitchen.

don't knock it till you try it

I've thought it over and i'm not going to post all the data just to give you a hard time with your skepticism, last year I did the same trip and averaged 29mpg and best was 33mpg on the way back

so Troll Harder Bro... every conversation with you is like arguing with a hard headed senior citizen that refuses to try new things if its not written in a manufacturer book you won't believe it till you experienced it

So you have no data then. That's what I figured.

So if it were so easy to get 40 MPG in the SHO don't you think Ford would:
1. Increase tire pressure to 40 PSI
2. Install a K&N From the factory
3. Tweak the ECU to make it more granny like
4. Require premium

I mean a multi billion dollar company that lives and dies by CAFE ratings and would love to tout 40 MPG in a large sedan would jump on it if it were that simple. The fact is it isn't and either there is:
1. Overstatement in your facts
2. Error in your L/100km to MPG calc
3. You got the ringer SHO.

so Troll Harder Bro... every conversation with you is like arguing with a hard headed senior citizen that refuses to try new things if its not written in a manufacturer book you won't believe it till you experienced it

So you resort to name calling. Let's see, I'm not a senior nor am I opposed to new ideas. I do work in IT and have to be flexible. But I'm also not some kid who thinks that every thing that comes along is better than OEM. Or that the OEM's don't know what they are doing. They do and spend millions on these cars, testing, and making them foolproof for today's idiot. So I'll take their recommendations over an aftermarket manufacturer any day. I'm in it for the long haul. I expect to put 150k on my SHO before I get rid of it. Ford has tested it to 150k and I'll stick with them.

So call me what you want - no skin off my back. Enjoy your car - that's the important thing.
