hey all, we have a hill at a light in town that I noticed the other day the wifes car will not hold itself with just the transmission, you have to hold the brake, if you let off brake it starts to roll backwards. I'm guessing its a 2% grade which I think is like 5 degree maybe. just curious if this is common with these beast lol. I have a Pontiac ssei and 2001 f150 with 256000 miles that holds on same hill with no brake . thanks

My 2013 and 2016 both would/will not roll backwards on a slight incline, not sure about a bigger one.

Mine rolls back.

So it's either press the brake pedal, or give it a lil gas and play the back/forth, up/down game.

Which is fun too, as it reminds me of my old manual trans days. **sigh** which I dearly miss.

I also have a 2010 SHO, and mine will roll back on hills. Nothing to worry about.

I had a 69 Mustang in high school that did that. I got the tranny rebuilt and wala. No more roll back.

LOL And now for something complete different, - When I was a baby the family car and there was only one of of them was a 1965 Mustang Fastback 2+2 with a 289/271 with three deuces and four speed. There was a hill with a stop light where we lived and my mother being a very typical girly girl of the time, was not really a four speed kind of girl. She kept rolling down the hill and the car had to go, funny you have a cool car when your young and you spend the rest of your life trying to get it back.

Just to be clear to everyone the tramission is not intended to hold your car on any hill, although some do. This is why FMC has hill start assist with holds the brakes for a few seconds while one transitions from the brake pedal to the accelerator.

It is kinda fun to see the people who forget there are manual transmission out there and see that sign of panic as the car in front rolls back some. This is why I like the parking break you can pull. Easier than trying the two pedal it.

That's a pretty common learning technique for people new to manual transmissions. But once it becomes natural the car won't roll back any more than an automatic [without hill start assist]. The time it takes to go from the brake to the gas on a manual or automatic is the same.
