2 weeks ago I curbed the plus pretty darn good. I ruined a rim, bent an inner tie rod and also bent the subframe. Yesterday the car finally got put back together with another subframe, new steering rack, new lower control arms, new outer tie rods, and new endlinks. What wasn't replaced still looked good. Now I went and got it aligned this morning. The guy says I have a bad motor mount so it will torque steer a bit. I thought eh, these cars have a little torque steer anyways so thats probably what he felt when he drove it. I drive it and want to park it right away. The torque steer is unbelievable. In any gear at any rpm and any throttle input (when off the gas the alignment is perfect) the car just pushes horribly left. This doesn't make sense to me as the car never did it before and all the mounts were in the same condition (they still looked ok to me). The only thing different that I did was the rubber on the tranny mount started to seperate so I jb welded it as a quick fix to get the car back on the road for now. I also have a different tire on the front passenger side (215 60 as compared the rest being 225 55) until I can find another white rim. I will rotate the tires and see what happens but I just can't believe that that small size difference would cause this much of a driveability problem. Also, will bad motor mounts really cause horrible torque steer? I'm just looking for answers on why this is happening because everything is put back together correctly (yes the subframe is aligned) I put all this money on new parts into it and it drives worse than it ever did. I'm just frustrated... please help.

You could have broken a spring when you curbed it. They can be hard to spot sometimes so look closly at every coil. A broken MM should not effect torque steer all that much, since the suspension is pretty much independent of engine movement. I take it you replaced the inner Tie rods too?

Thats all I can think of...

Hey Jim, screwed it up eh? As stated, motor mounts won't affect torque steer. Different sized tires can. Is that 4th tire mounted on a slicer too? Put the miss-match on the rear and try it. If steering changes under throttle I would take a close look at the tension struts, cups and bushings. I'll be home most of the day Wednesday working on my Wah-Goon, sandblasting and body stuff.

I suspect the tire is the problem - I can't believe they would put 2 different size tires on the drive axle anyways. Put the mismatch on the rear as Perry said.

I knew the mismatched tire would make a difference but I said screw it. I just can't win at this point. I switched the mismatched (on a slicer by the way) from the front to the rear and as I did this I broke a wheel stud. I decided that that was really cute and have sorta lost interest at this point. It does a little better without the mismatched tire on the front, obviously, but it's still not very good. The car also has some weird handling problems through turns (a little worse on left hand turns) were the car will be going around the turn and then with the same steering input still duck even harder into the turn. It's scared me a few times. I'm starting to think I may have bent the front end of the car a little bit as the hood is no longer lined up. I hope its just part of having the mismatched tire on the car (and possibly in part to only having four lugs on the front) but right now I'm done for a little bit. I'm just fed up with the car and I'm just gonna drive it for awhile and if it breaks it breaks. I brought most of this on myself by wrecking the car but now I gotta replace the stud (I'm just putting new spindles on so I can get my bigger brakes on) I also have to replace the brake master cylinder that decided to start leaking about 3 weeks ago and still have to find another white rim. Perry I'm sorry I missed you on Wednesday I've been pulling 13 hour days between Anderson's and UPS. I'm probably gonna drop off your engine stand tonight while I'm on break or after work. Just a warning if you see this before hand. Also thanks for the ideas guys I'll check my spring and everything else up there and see if I didn't break that too. Ah... these SHO's are worse then women. :bonk:

Check the springs, the way you say its driving sounds exactly like a broken spring.

Did you make sure your subframe was centered properly before you took it in for an alignment?

Also, with the tires not the same, the alignment will be WAY off once the car is sitting level.

did you.... tighten all the bolts at the steering knuckle to shock assembly... the 2 bolts... cause if that isn't tight... you'll be driving and hit a bump and the steering wheel goes all weird.

For what it's worth, my 90 torque steered like crazy when I got it, til I replaced the absolutely demolished front motor mount with a SHONUT extreme reinforced one.

My 92 has some torque steer issues also, but I plan on moving that motor mount over. Also, both torque steered to the right.
