So heres the story..The car was parked on the side of my house for a few months while i was away, and when i returned home i could see the low amount of air in the tires, so I added air, put the car on the road and thought nothing off it..

about a week ago it started to feel like there was constantly a flat on my pass rear side. that up & down motion u feel when you drive on a flat..it wasnt horrible, but it was deff noticable, and has started to become a real problem for me.

I got under the car and looked around (on a jack and off a jack) and nothing seems to be broken, bent or out of place.

Well the other night this happens while im driving!!!

When it happened the tire was still holding air, the tread was ripped off, and the tire was distorted in shape...Put on the spare and the car is STILL shaking in the rear...Got home, took the other rear tire off and whoala...the other tire is distorted in shape, and the tread is already starting to tear away from the tire....

MY QUESTION IS...
What the F@#$% Caused this? im thinking it was the fact that the tires where left for SOO long with SOO little air, that the tires actually distorted over time due to the weight on them...Anyone got any ideas b4 I slapp new tires on this thing...could bearings cause this? anything else?

THANKS IN ADVANCE..
Brian

Best guess seems to be belt seperation in the tire/s. Sometimes this happens for no reason what so ever. I've seen in other cases a light impact with an object in the road (ie. small rock) cause belt seperation.

Is there anything that can cause this to happen..it was "shaking" for about a week before this occured...i just wanna make sure the tires should fix it..otherwise ill just be ruining those tires also..

I would love to agree with that cause its a cheap fix...but the tread on BOTH rear tires is coming off the tires...I guess the pass blew first, and i had a chance to see the drvr side b4 it went..my brothers SRT did the same thing but, that was one tire and it was from burnouts..how could both rear tires go almost at the same time unless there was an issue in there somewhere?

All it needs is a small poncture (not all the way through) , water gets in , rusts the steel belts , causes a weak spot and BAM.

Plus these tires seems to be passed overdue....

Are these GT+4's?

They're Futura 2000s...they have a decent amount of meat still on them on the majority of the tire, but around the area of the blowout seems to be alot flatter than the rest...Im not arguing with anyone here..I agree 100%, and that was my first instinct.."time to change the tires"..but it just seems a little odd to me, thats all..

Thanks for all the help guys..

When was the last time an alignment was done? The inside tread of the tire in that picture is past the wear bar while the outside looks to have a significant amt more tread.
Id say you have too much rear camber.

Also, the tire probably did distort from lack of air and if you left the car on a concrete pad it could have suck some of the moisture out of the tire, causing premature dry rot.

It had an allignment done a few months(4-6) ago...It was left on a dirt patch on the side of my house..for 2 months and it rode fine up untill a week ago...then a few days ago it blew out..Ive been checking everything i can (control arms, sway bars, my hubs) anything thats back there and all seems well...im almost sure its cause the car was left to sit with low air pressure..but like i said b4, just wanna make sure so i dont eat through another pair of tires..

Belt Separation, lack of air, sitting... and a little bit of dryrot in the rubber always helps too. I had a similar situation on my 2.3 Mustang

MY QUESTION IS...
What the F@#$%
Brian

The car was parked on the side of my house for a few months while i was away

if the car was sitting in the grass for a few months, that will cause the tires to fall apart, esp when the car is not moved in that time. and the older the tires to, the faster they fall apart when the car is put back on the road...

have had that happen to me a few times. and its also not a good idea to let a car sit on pavement to long either, since that will create flat spots on the tires... with all my cars, if I know they are goign to sit for at least a month, I will either move it around by hand, or if I have room in the garage for them, I will put it on jack stands.
