Hello so I own a 97 with 267+++ miles SHO I originally bought it to flip. Well I've only had the car for little over 6moth and with all the TLC IM putting in the car I figured just keeping would make it easier to drop the amount of money it need plz if you have any questions that I can answer vise versa on how to make this car a head turner

Welcome to SHOworld :) The worst issue I keep hearing of is whether the cams have been welded, but v8sho.com is a great place to learn also. That, the SARC suspension, and COPs burning up on the rear bank due to heat.

Yes, welcome. Do some looking about here and on V8SHO.com. Between the two sites you should be able to get a good feel for the car and what to look for. At that mileage, likely your cam sprockets have already been welded, but you still should check to make sure. There are very few other design flaws for the car that are more than minor, though the transmission was not designed for stoplight racing and needs consideration in that regard.

A few more details everyone, I originally bought the car because of the engine only having less than 75,000 miles and I am the 3Rd owner IM currently working on getting the check engines light taken care of secondary fuel? But as for the transmission I'll have to look into that after suspension work.

Little more info the only changes to the stock SHO ARE..drilled and slotted rotters.dual exhaust.and some Beats supplied by me. becauseI can stand the noise my suspension and brakes make as soon as I put it in drive and go. the beak pads are all new and they were not easy to do they bearly fit maybe I need bigger calibers? That would be a bad upgrade lol but there's my first actual request for advice thanks in advance and next time I'll post it in the right category! :)

I thought the windstar was the same tran, but was corrected by a more expierenced member. Not sure of a replacement. This is my first automatic car. Every thing I ever had was 4 or 5spd.

The only difference I know between the 2 trans is that the final gear isn't the same. Windstar on overdrive will roll with an higher rpm.

Putting the final gear in a SHO trans was seen as an upgrade for some SHO owners because it will cause a little better acceleration on a SHO. However, this will decrease gas mileage on highway... (Depends on what you want to do with the car.)

The SHO trans is an AX4N but with stronger parts in it (than SLO), not sure the Windstars was made with these stronger parts... (I made some searches in the last months on trans and I never rode that someone just replace his trans with a Windstar one.)

The Windstar trans very definitely does not have the same ability to handle hp as the one for the SHO. Or so was the general consensus on this by more knowledgeable people back when this all came up eight or ten years ago.

And that's were I came off the rails...what gen 3 sho fan said about changing the final drive is what had me thinking incorrectly the trans were interchangeable. File this post to things one CAN NOT do for a replacement trans.

Excellent responses!
