Is there a specific length I need to look for when buying replacement hood struts or is there just a generic replacement? I'm tired of the hood hitting me in the head when I check the oil.

If by factory you mean oem Ford units at $80/pair with discount, then yes. I just can't justify the price for the part on my car with ~180k on the odometer. I want cheaper aftermarket, but I'm unsure if there are any fitment issues. First time replacing these parts on any car for me.

I show different part numbers on GenII and GenIII. I don't work at a parts store or anything, I just happened to be on auto zone web site looking for parts. Usually different part numbers mean different fit, but some times different parts fit just as well.

$11.99 a piece at SHO Source. -
Hood struts

It looks like the extended length (according to the AZ parts comparison) from GenII and GenIII is over 2.5" and the compressed length (of their replacement unit) is about 1.5" longer compressed.

Can you get GenIII compatible units for close to the same price as your 89-95Strong Arm units? I'd prefer to use SHO Source if I can get the right part.
