I actually have two questions but figured I would address them both in one post.

Question 1: Recently had the timing belt, crank sensor, water pump, front seal, fuel pump, coolant hoses and alternator replaced. Got the car back from the mechanic and it now has a high pitched whistle which seems to be coming from the intake. If I rev the engine a little the pitch changes. The only thing I can compare it to is the sound that an alternator whine made in the radio back in the 80's. I assume the intake was removed to access the timing belt did they maybe not replace the gasket? Did they damage a vacuum line? Any ideas or has anyone else run across this? The sound was not there before the work was done. The car was not driven much in the last 18 years as the 90k on the odometer reflects.

Question 2: The previous owner passed and the service records could not be located, with the condition of the timing belt and water pump I am going to assume that the valve adjustment was never done at 60k. What kind of rats nest am I going to open up when I go get that done?

Thanks for any and all help.

I have wanted a 95 SHO since I was a teenager I even had a 95 Taurus GL with custom plates reading "WSHWZSHO" I finally found it and want to get it back to the way it should be.

first thing to check is to make sure it is not the timing belt whine. timing belt whine will occur if the belt is too tight. too tight of belt will eventually break something - I have seen broken cams, broken idlers, etc.

if the valve covers do not leak, don't worry about the valve lash. whenever you pull off the valve covers to replace the gaskets, check valve lash then. typically, they will not require adjustment.

btw, welcome aboard!

Could timing belt tensioner failure also cause tightness in the belt? Since the ATX tensioner is hydraulic vs. the MTX's manual ...

no, it would allow slack, and you'd hear thumping around...I know, just did mine this last September. Could be a vacuum leak.

Thank you and will the timing belt squeal like a serpentine belt would? Because it is definitely a whistle and not a squeal
