Right now my 93' ATX's stereo almost dies when I come to a stop. I'm assuming it's an alternator problem but I haven't had it into the shop to have it tested yet. I'd like to upgrade to a high output alternator because I'm going to be be putting my subs in and I don't really wanna weigh things down with a second battery in the trunk. I'd like to find a 150+ AMP alternator. I've seen 150 AMP alternators for SHO's on the Cinc SHO site. I talked to some people at a local shop and they said that 150A would burn out my electrical system. Is that true? And where might I find the best deal on the highest output alternator for my SHO? Please feel free to email me. mailto:[email protected][email protected]</a>

A capacitator should be fine for your system. Go with a 1 farad cap. It will really help.

I already have a 1.0 Fraud power cap hooked to my amp. But I'm running 4000 watts. When I hit the 80Hz, it's gonna drain on just one cap. 1.0 Fraud is only really rated to 1000 watts. :-(

Are you listening to test tones? Unless you are burping @ 4000 watts, have your system checked to see how much you are really pulling. While wattage is important, amplifiers are so much more efficient than they used to be.

I went the higher output alternator route, 225 hot rated, I now have plenty power, so it does not "burn up" your electrical system. It doesn't "see" 225, only if need be.

Dave's DC Electric built my beast of an alternator for around $1100.

I would look into a bigger alt and a second battery. These will make much better improvements than a huge cap. You'll get a much more effective upgrade than with a cap.

There's usually some on ebay. I don't know of any any retailers since I've never looked for one of these. A second battery will allow you to play the system longer with the engine off but that's the only benefit. An optima battery under the hood with a good alternator and 1F/1000watts should cure any headlight dimming. I'm running 1600watts with an optima red top, 2F capacitor and the stock alternator, with almost no dimming even at idle with UDP's!

I had my system checked by one of my dad's friends at his shop. They said the alternator is fine. But they did say that the ground wire from the battery seemed really hot. They thought it's bad and I should replace it. Where can I get one? I think I'm gonna end up getting another 1F power cap to run with my subs.
