Hey guys

Ok I just pick-up a 97 and the problem that I have is the car is misfiring and the check engine light is on of course but the big problem something is knocking under the vavle cover in the front towards the belt drive and its the left side of the block. Im thinking the cam or one or two of the vavles are boucing around. I need a little help thanks.

Misfire could be a coil

If there is something knocking, do not start the car. If you are mechanically inclined, start taking it apart. If not, tow it to a mechanic. I see you are in MA....a trip to NorthEastSHO should be in your plans.

Yes Im am thats why im taking it apart tonight and plus im a tow truck driver too so im all set and ive been the I bought parts off of fred. all im tring to do is gett answers of what it might be. But thanks for your input tho

Found the problem it is 2 and 7 ing. coils are junk and they said thats why im getting the knocking sound I guess replace them and hope and pray

I would sure pull the valve covers off and look at the cams.

Spend the time and just take off the front cover

I did do that before I went to put it on the computer. The cams look fine the chains and the cam gear are tight and not sloppy. but it sounds like theres something rudding on the vavle cover so I looked at the vavle cover and there isnt any fresh marks on it But before I put the new coils in I going to get the gaskets first then do everything at once. Then send it to the tranny shop yeah its slipping ********

Unfortunately, how the cams look has nothing to do with when they're going to fail.

yea I've been there with kevin Hanks I was the one with the wht 91+ But yeah when the cars up and running I will pm you so you guys can take a look at it

Unless you take the cam intake to exhaust cam chains off then the gears are under tension loading and will not easily move or wiggle. I thought mine were fine prior to removing the cams and sending them to NESHO to get welded. When I removed the cam one of the sprockets slid freely down the cam when I placed it on its end (it got my attention really quick). DON"T TAKE ANY CHANCES.
