My 14 had an occasional hesitation when I push it to the floor. Usually when it needs to downshift from 4 to 3. Any ideas?

How long of a hesitation? Stock or tuned? PCM calibrations up to date? Fuel Pump Control Module maybe?

2 seconds is way too long, from all reports, but it IS possible on Ford's OEM tune for the SHO. Check to see if the transmission fluid is full and clean. You may have to check spark plugs (how many miles on your SHO) also. Knock sensor wiring issues don't feel like that, but that can be on your list further down the road.

The computer that runs the powertrain is called the PCM. Periodically, Ford may issue updates for the PCM software as fixes/improvements become available. This software is often referred to as a calibration or a tune (street lingo). Aftermarket tuners provide tunes for the PCM that will remove the slack in the OEM tune and improve powertrain responsiveness.

Got the recall done and is running much better.

I am 63 and have never had fast cars and am really not mechanical. My father was an engineer that was brilliant at that stuff and I was always jealous. Got this 14 SHO a and I don't know anything about it really. Just change fluids and drive fast. Can anyone tell someone like me what I could do (in elementary language) to increase hp? Probably not mechanical enough to do it but would like to look into it.
Thanks

If you have the skill to register for this forum and post messages (which you obviously do), you have sufficient skill to install a Livernois tune in your SHO that will make you feel like 23 instead of 63. You will not even have to raise the hood. Your engine/transmission behavior is basically controlled by computer so all you need is a tuning device loaded with the appropriate information to enhance your car's stock settings. The difference is astounding and no mechanical skill is needed at all.

I have also notice a pretty significant hesitation at times (not two seconds) but it does seems like it, not sure what gear I'm in, but for me it happens at slow speeds when I suddenly need to go and go fast. I seem to get caught in the wrong gear with little or no boost. My guess is this engine is pretty dependent on boost to make power and if your going slow in the wrong gear it takes some time to get her catch up.
