Well my Hennessey 60hp EcoBoost kit showed up Wednesday....:woo-hoo:
Kirk from Northeast SHO was going to help me install it this weekend but I couldn't wait and went ahead and installed it Wednesday night.
It took me about 4 hrs to install, getting the back blowoff valve hose off was the worst part. The factory clamps were pointing backward and it was tough getting to them to get them off.
I did have some fitment issues with the kit though. With the tube bolted to were they tell you to put it there was no way I was getting the cold air box in and connecting the filter to the pipes..
So I did what I could and ran it without the box until today..
I went down to visit Kirk (Northeast SHO) today and he fixed the problems. A little moddifing, cutting, tweaking and she went together.
For anyone who buys this kit, if they are all the same which I expect they use some sort of jig so they all should be the same. Cut the tab off the main pipe before you do the install. With it bolted to where they put it the pipe will not reach the cold air box and it is to high. We also had to moddify around the back side of the box to make the filter fit. You will see in the pictures that we had to cut a little off the headlight support to get the filter in there with the box.
All in all I am pretty happy with the kit, fitment could have been a little better with the kit that I got but not to bad of a job..

So the pros on the Hennessey Kit and tuning;

Nice kit all around, pretty good job with it..
Sound is great..
Seat of the pants the car felt faster..
Raced against Kirks SHO and beat him by a car or so..

The cons on the Hennessey kit and tuning;

Fitment could be better.
With modifications leave yourself about 6 hrs for the install
Shifting tuning could be better, a little soft for my taste;
Northeast SHO tune was much better on the trans tuning..
And the Hennessey price, a little much for what you get.

So what is next is that Kirk will be doing some good projects for the 2010 SHO over the next few months as well as some dyno tuning. That should be awesome for all of us, as I know Kirk is a perfectionist and some great things will be adding on my car in the near future..

Looks like it gets rid of that terrible 180 in the stock intake. Looks really good :).

Wait a second....does that CAI go right down to both turbos? :dribble:

I bet Kirk's gonna come up with something equal to if not better for a fraction of the cost, since, ya know, NESHO doesn't carry the price tag that the name Hennessy does for it's fancy bits. No offense, Kirk or any of ya'll other yankees.

So, is it just a HAI with tubes running down to the turbos? I can't find any details on Hennessy's website. What all does it include?

I'm really surprised they didn't use that little ram air area that had to be modified to fit. Then I see a gaping hole where it could have fit. When I made mine months ago, I incorporated that so-called ram air section with a little scoop myself. Really shocked at how small the air box itself is but the rest of the kit looks pretty damn cool. That larger filter looks like it'll suck in some air, hopefully not alot of that hot engine air though. And I'm liking the NESHO decal too. :dribble:

That really looks like a nice kit. I would much rather have a short ram intake on there to get better throttle response. A CAI don't do much on a car that the air is just going to get heated up form a turbo. The next step you should take is get a bigger intercooler on there to get colder air in the engine, or even install a meth kit.

i dunno...the intercooler on this thing is one of the biggest i've seen on a production vehicle outside diesel trucks.

The kit is very cool! I was very interested in looking at the kit so I had Bill com down so we could do some testing, time never worked out to do the testing that we wanted but here is the best I can do on a write up/test and trying to be partial.

Fitment, well for one of the very first few that Hen has made I would give the direct bolt in a 6.. Things needed to me moved, removed, cut tweaked but its in there.. Bill was unable to get in the filter housing (black steel blocker plate) the one that "keeps the hot air out.. This can be left out anyway as it does not seal the filter off very good.. but I sure it will help.

The product in looks wise is 100% this thing looks great! and they put in a good amount of effort in making it.

The tubes are larger so they will flow more air, but the turbo connections neck down so Im not sure they are improving the airflow (kind of like the Gen 3 mufflers, they went to a 2.25 pipe but had a 1.75 neck down at the muffler) .. I did not measure the pipes but they look 2.25 but the turbos inlet is 2" or smaller..

I think I had roughly 3 hrs in installing the airbox part, which for a bolt in piece was a long time. I needed to used a chop off wheel it install it, on what I wont say but it was difficult. and could be done better in the future.

All in all a great looking piece and im sure with the tune and the exhaust it works. I don't think its worth all that money, I can tell you that.. but hey its way better that anything I or anyone else offer at the moment.

Bill and I did race, in the rain and just kind of a rough "go". I pulled him out of the hole through first and second, as soon as we hit third he pulled on me and by fourth he was out in front and walking away from me. Id say roughly speaking by the time I gave up he was a full car length in front of me, if not 1.5 cars in front.. So the tune (hen tune, cai and my exhaust) he beat me up pretty good. I was happy that his car did that well! Im glad that someone is selling things that do work.

I could see his smile from inside his tinted car! LOL

Intake kit 1 being bad 10 being good.
Construction 7
install/ fitment 6
Looks 9
performance along with other things. 11
Material (metal tubes) 5

I think roughly speaking he is at beefs level on performance, and he just used a tune. so now that Bill has all this stuff, its time to work on a better tune so Bill can record the new fastest time in the future..

I did grab the part numbers off of the filter and called my Carbon fiber specialist 10 mins after he was gone and said we need to do this asap. I think the heat will be the biggest battle to overcome in the engine compartment so a better heat resistant material should be used in the future.

Bill, after you left I made the "other" elbow that we spoke about, I need to get a bung for the boost sensor welded in and that's done. so plan another trip down soon.

IMO its not worth 2000.00! but at the same time it is a nice piece and happy that they made it. it does work just cant tell how much. YET

I am really looking forward to see what you bring in terms of CAI. Trying to be as patient as i can to give NESHO an opportunity to show me what he can put together.

Speaking of the tune.....i have my car tuned now and just recieved the Hen CAI today. Planning on doing the install in the morning. Should I have Livernois check out the tune after the install? Also does it need to be tuned to use the intake?

Great write up/follow up there Kirk. Glad that you can see first hand what they had created and find ways to improve it. Of course they have the money to do a lot of research into these kind of parts but they don't "specialize" in the SHO like you and some of the others would. After you eat, sleep, etc. SHOs for years like you have, you will have more involvement in to it and make it more affordable for the rest of us. Plus taking great pride in doing so. Not saying that they don't, but Hennessey tends to be more into the Camaros, Vipers, GT-Rs and so on. Grab a couple mags on the newstands today. You won't see the Ecoboost SHO in there, but you'll see those others plastered in their pages. Bring on the warm weather so we can get these 2010s rolling. :sun:

After many posts That have not seen the light of Day I am not visiting this site again. Many of the Posts were related to SHO performance package suspension being the same as 402A. Maybe the Forum Police did not want this to be public knowledge.
