I just got a 94 MTX and the RR door is stuck closed! I've tried everything I know to open it, to no avail though. I have the panel off and can access the the mechanism, but can't seem to pull or push the right part to get it to unlatch.......... Anybody have any ideas or tricks for this? Thanks.

The RR door is a pain in all Taurus. From the outside, your have to find the right spot to get it to open, and sometimes trying to find this spot and lefting too hard breaks the handle from the mechanism inside. If this has happened and the door has the child lock switch on, meaning you can't open it from the inside, you are pretty much going to have to remove the handle and use the mechanism for that to open the door.

Really?

At least all 86-95. Every Taurus and SHO I've had or been around, have had this problem. I've had my daughters teacher open the front door after failed attempts on the rear. My cousin even broke the handle off the lever deal, from trying to open the door.

I had problems with that door on mine too when I got the car, I was lucky, turned out to be an extremely gunked-up latch. Half a can of WD-40 later, it works great.

The guy that owned the car before me didn't even try to open it. He just lived with it for the 2 years he had it. That would drive me crazy not being able to open a door........I'm definately on a mission with this one. I'll get some PB Blaster tomorrow morning and soak the s*#t out of it. I know that all the linkages are connected and operating properly, its just the lock mechanism is not releasing.

I've even thought of taking the door off the B pillar - but quickly realized that would not do anything but open a can of worms with the wiring and the door still being attached to the striker.

Is it possible to remove the outside handle with its housing? I haven't even looked at that angle yet. Thanks guys.

Need two people for this, one on the outside, one inside the car. Pull up on handle (not hard! Just normal, either inside or outside), and alternate pushing on door frame close to the latch. Unless the latch is rusted beyond reason, it will eventually release.

I have to use the hip bump and pull the door handle at the same time trick to open mine, you might want to give it a try :nut: .
