HELP NEEDED QUICK! I think my ac pulley is going, 93 ATX

Please help me asap... my ac compressor pulley is causing my belt to smoke and squeal like none other. This is my daily driver and it just happened like 15 mins ago. I'm going to make sure this is what went, but I'm 99.9 % sure. Can I buy a belt and route around the ac until summer? Remember it is a 93 ATX, not MTX... all the searches I came up with were just for 5-speeds. Thanks in advance! frown

I thought the belt still spun around the seized compressor.. mine sure does.. Unless im missing something, which is probably the case..

yeah, you can, but you will have to do the 'string thing' to measure the required length...

its funny you mention this. my a/c compressor seized last week on my way to work (very cold morning) and burned the belt clear through stranding me 30 miles from home. so i went out and bought an acura the same day, problem solved seriously though good luck with it. i dont recall being able to delete the a/c without some sort of tiny mod. let us know if you find anything.

EDIT - i just saw the other post on the forum about the a/c delete, let us know if it works!

Well, success if you want to call it that. My a/c compressor is SMOKED. This is the belt routing I came up with to bypass the a/c and I drove the car about 20 mins and had no problems. I'm waiting to see in the other post if this is the way that guy routed his.

69.5" belt BTW.

The whole pulley seized? If it was just the compressor you could unplug it. But it looks like you have it figured out...

Adam, youre the man! i may have to do that to my atx so i can limp it around in the snow until warmer days come to fix it. its odd how so many of us have seized a/c pulleys right now. it barely looks like its touching the water pump though, but you didnt have any temp problems?

That's really the reason I was waiting to hear back from the guy in the other posts... the water pump has definite pressure on it with the belt and so far no problems. It really baffles me as to how it can be routed anyother way to get more of a bite on the H2O pump. For now it seems all is well, uh aside from my throttle sticking b/c I had done the TB bypass. Does it ever END? madflame

you know its funny, i did the bypass too, and even when it hit -20 here from the windchill a few weeks ago (remember we had that bad cold spell here in the northeast) i had no problem with the throttle what so ever. ::shrugs:: oh well. good luck with the current configuration. if you encounter any problems be sure to let us know wink
