Tranny shifter cable plastic part snapped. The section that goes through the bracket. This is a atx, floor shift, cable linkage top of tranny under hood set up. At this point my focus is on 1. where i might find a new cable 2. what other make cars may have compatible part 3. who has a step by step remove/install repair guide for this job. So far, three of the bigs contacted no longer carry this item. Namely AZ, Advance and O'reillys. Please help. God Bless

Junk yards. You'll probably have to pull it yourself. Which will be good practice.

Or you can try posting in the WTB's here.

Thanks guy. Actually i would be happy to find a sho in the junk yard. I have never seen one there. That is one reason i am seeking to find out if the part is interchangeable with another make vehicle.

yes it is. Any Taurus or Sable that has the buckets and the floor mounted shifter. You won't find many of those either, but it expands the possibilities slightly.

Well i found a sho in the yard of junk! Did not have enough time to finish removal before yard closed. Hindered by carpet and other obstacles atop of cable. I think too i am going to have to deal with a heater duct. I should be able to knock it out, BUT, i am very open to any helpful tidbits anyone may care to offer. No shame in my game. Thanks to all.

Shifter cable grommet question

First off, that is exactly what i wound up doing. Busting everything in the way, out of the way with a tire iron. I am finally all most home on this fix. BUT! The fire wall rubber grommet on the shifter cable just won't push in place or fit. I got it off of another sho and they look identical. My sho is 93. Replacement from 95. I'm pushing it, turning it and pushing. Just wonder if anybody has any advice or suggestions regarding working the grommet in. :swing:
