Impact gun and a deep socket may do it.

I resorted to welding a handle on a 1/2 inch drive deep socket, then using my impact and a socket on the hex end of the strut.

Good luck, by far the most frustrating part of my suspension drama.

no welder handy, but its an idea, is that aluminum thing sandwiched under the nut? And once removed does it NEED to be put back in?!? I am about to blow up the stinking car!

Perry taught me a neat trick if you're pneumatically disadvantaged :) Using an old-style sparkplug socket - the ones with the hex/flats on the outside as well, drop the smaller socket for the strut rod inside the larger outer socket with an extension running up through the drive boss in the outer socket. You should now have a socket within a socket, if you can picture that. Put a wrench on the outer socket, a breaker bar onto the drive extension for the inner socket and let your mechanical prowress take over. The bb should hold the inner while you loosen the outer.

Good Luck!

Thanks Perry!

This is one thing you can try, You need a 1/4 drive ratchet, 3" extension for it, shallow 10mm 6pt socket, 13/16 spark socket plug in a 3/8" or 1/2" drive and a adjustable wrench or correct wrench to fit the top of the spark plug socket. Place the 10mm on top of the strut shaft, take the spark plug socket over the 10mm one now install the extension into the 10mm socket inside the spark plug socket. Hold the shaft with the small ratchet and then turn with the wrench. It works sometimes. If its really stuck you will just snap some part of the 1/4 drive setup.
