Glad to have this resource available!

I am picking up a 93 ATX tomorrow with known tranny problem.
Its clean inside and out and a STEAL at $400.00
Fella selling says it "Feels like it goes into Neutral without warning". It was recently rebuilt by somebody, so he thinks they"missed the problem".
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
I have been reading here and know about the forward clutch piston issue.
cars got 150k on it.
I am working on this car myself...

Hello! and welcome to the forums!

I see you have yet to do much with the car yet, but once you do get the car in your possession you will need to let us know a little bit more information.

Hard to say whats wrong with it with such little information. Does it "drop into neutral" at any speed? or only while in a certain gear? Does it re-engage if you give it more / less gas? Have you done the basic stuff first, like drop the tranny pan, inspect for filings, and condition of transmission fluid?

Assuming the transmission is bad with 150k, your best bet (financially) is to drop the tranny yourself and get someone to professionally rebuild it, or if you feel confident and have the tools and knowledge to do it yourself, tear the tranny down and do a complete thorough inspection and overhaul. Theres nothing worse than putting the transmission back together and back in the car only to find out the problem still exists!

How much experience do you have rebuilding automatic transmissions?

When possible (and to ensure you get some good responses) try and provide as many specific details as you can think of pertaining to your problem.

Might as well get a spare tranny and have it built to the hilt. That way, when your current tranny takes it's final shift, you will have a replacement ready to go.

I did not get the car as my bank saw fit to charge me some overdraft fees...

I live just over the river in Vancouver. If I remember correctly that was a blue ATX, right? I saw it on craigslist. Not a big fan of the ATX cars, but a no-lift-shift is kinda nice. Best of luck finding the right car. I know a guy that has a few for sale. Green ATX's. Of course.

Yup, thats the one...
I saw it close up its got pristine paint, a cpl parts missing from fender, interior is dirty but not torn or overly worn even. Its a nice car. 150k
The 60k tutorial looks frightening, doing that with motor in the car.
I'd prolly do all that stuff while it was out and trying to find another tranny...
I drive a turbododge, so I have 2 trannys on-hand for that
A lot can happen this time of year maybe i'll be blessed with a miracle!
