Hey SHO people, I'm Megan and I just got a 1995 SHO.
I'm new to manual transmissions so I'm definitely a newbie.
I'm on this forum because I'm hoping to learn all about my new baby!
That being said, and that I'm new to manuals, my car came with an aftermarket shift
****, and I thought first gear would be all the way to the top left, but it just didn't feel
right. So first, what is the shift pattern on this car? It didn't come with an owners manual
and the guy I got it from is too good lately to help me out. So basically I'm coming at this blind. Lol
Any and all advise on my car would be greatly appreciated!
Megan:)

Top left is first. Bottom right is reverse. What part of Michigan are you from? There are a number of SHO people in Michigan and northern Indiana. Welcome to the Forum.

I am from battle creek, but I was born and raised in northern indiana. Lol! I must not be doing something right because I don't have the v6 motor in it, its the v8 motor. I think the guy said I have
216,000 on the body, and around 20,000 on the motor. When he took me for a ride in the car before I got it, it was super fast, but when I drive it, it takes forever for it to get going.

A girl....what? I hope this doesn't go downhill in a hurry.

As said before, you were right, top left would be first. These shifters/transmissions aren't always the best in the world after getting a lot of miles on them, the bushings in the shifter get worn out.

How many miles are on the car?

Also, before shifting into reverse, it'll help to shift into 5th, or some other forward gear (I personally use fifth).

I also shift into second before first sometimes since my transmission is a little finicky.

It has a V6 for sure.

Paging Zach.

And welcome to the forum. Lots of information here. I'd take some time reading some of the stickied threads in the help and "how to" sections.

And if it's a 95, it's most definately the v6.

Is this the red car that was on Youtube a few years back? There have only been a handful of those conversions. :)

At any rate, plenty of parts and people around here if you ever need something.

Oh hai! I can come SHO you how to shift your new sho if you would like.

Oh lord... down boy LOL:rofl:

To settle the question, can you take a pic of the engine? That will be proof one way or the other. If you're not used to forums, upload the pic to a site like photobucket, and then copy/paste the image code.

And welcome! We can always use fresh faces.

It's definitely the V6. When you open the hood, you should see three plug wires on the front cylinder bank.

You "might" be trying to start it in 3rd gear. Also, the SHO doesn't really start to make power until around 4,000 rpm, so if you start at a low rpm, it takes a bit to build up the head of steam.

Just gotta drive it harder!!

Yeah, starting in third will make it seem like a dog, until you get to about 60, lol.

And drive it harder, it'll be more fun.

As others have stated, they did not make v8 SHO's in '95. Take a couple of pics of the engine bay and car so we can see. Try putting it in 2nd (bottom left) and then into 1st. If it is not shifting correctly you may want to try changing the trans fluid. If you are starting in 3rd it will be extremely slow off the line.

Might be kind of hard to upload it here from a phone.

If it looks like this, it's a V6

Yes it looks exactly like that! Only the words are black. The car has 216,000 miles on it but they dropped another motor in it and it only has 20,000 miles on it. And thanks to everyone for the advice! This is really helping me out a lot!

And jay, I think my gears might be off a little because I understand that reverse is
Bottom right? Well I couldn't get it to go in reverse today, and same with first gear, I had it all the way to the top left corner of the box and it still wasn't going right.

There may be something wrong with the shifter, I'm thinking the boss may be broken off of the transmission. I'm up in Grand Rapids area, if you can get it up here, I'd be happy to take a look at it :) I'm also going through battle creek on my way up from ft. wayne this saturday if you are free, I'd be happy to stop and take a look as well.

Oh, and welcome
