Hi everyone!!
This is my first post here, although I've been reading everything the past few weeks.
I've learned quite a bit. I'm learning a lot about cars lately, and hope to make use of the info.
I bought a black '99 SHO, under 30K miles a few weeks ago. I had upgraded from a '98 SE w/ the 24V Duratec. I loved that car, but I wanted something with less miles since it was getting up there. I've put a K+N filter in there. Noticed a small increase in power, and slightly different tone in the engine.
I've checked out your posts about Superchips, and seen more negative than positive. However, being a user of one in my '98 for about a year and a half, I'll tell you that it made night and day difference. I can't say whether or not it'll do the same for the SHO, but I want to give it a try. There's a guy who will reprogram my module to my '99s computer (calibration AZD0) for $50, and I think it's worth a shot.
My question is- What's the best way TO the computer?? Through the engine compartment still? It's a bit more cramped in the SHO compartment than my '98 SE. It was a pain to put it in there. Anyone have any ideas on how to make installation easier?? Any input's appreciated.
Sorry this is such a long post, I'll try not to do it again!!
Thanks in advance!!
Nick

Steps:

1. Stand in front of car.
2. Open hood
3. See the surge tank (near the bulkhead (aka firewall))
4. Just behind there and down a little is the PCM......
5. Watch your hands when removing it the plastic tends to bite you.
6. Yes, this can be done without removing anything..... except the vacuum line on the back of the surge tank.

I have picture of the location.. if you need it. Email me off list. I have not heard anything god about Super CHip with the Gen III's. Diablo seems to work bette still testing theat at the moment. Mods for theses car are few and far between.

My experience...

DO NOT GO WITH ANY TYPE OF CHIP!

Why? Because this is a totally different type of engine than the duratech. Noone has found a superchip for the V8 SHO that actually shows power gains across the board. You may gain in places...but you'll lose in others.

Some have even reported transmission problems after the chip install.

Easiest way to explain it is this:

Ford put so many layers into the programming that even the aftermarket experts have trouble getting to the bottom of them.

If you ever find a chip that actually works...patent it...you'd be a rich man.

There was a V8SHO.com email list member that worked with a chip expert for the better part of 6 months to get one that worked....as far as I know....he never did. Problem after problem came up. The programming is deep on these computers.

Best of luck...keep us updated if you try a few.

If there had ever been a chip that worked...the V8 email list would know about it. And...I would have one

But yes...sorry to be so negative.

Thanks for the input guys...I'll let you know what I decide or whatever. $50 isn't TOO bad for a reprogram on my chip, if I get the urge to try it out.
The Duratec was (is) a good engine..just needed the oomph provided by the Superchip. Even my dad was impressed, and got one for his F-250. THAT says a lot for it!! But, as all vehicles are different..maybe it won't help the SHO. Hopefully one will come out that will be good for it though.
Thanks again!

I heard from very reliable source saying that the Diablo chip is worth it and he has no reason to lie (Their finalizing software with his help)........ Question is would you believe him. It will be my next purchase, so you can have my word..... if you chose to believe

Thing about the Diablo.....it can be change and modified by you and your computer. Diablo sports is working and willing to work with us..... Oh alos there is no negative side to this chip.

IMHO

I've heard on Tauruscarclub.com that any Taurus with a factory security system could have issues with the Diablochip. There's a guy on there, Bob Riley, who programs them, and sells them at a group discount. I'm not sure if the bugs or whatever have been worked out though. Could you check with your source??

I would think a Superchip would work on a V8SHO. Because it is essentially a Duratec with 2 more cylinders.

But again, as I'v heard every Gen 3 or 4 owner, they've been disappointed.

Is there a supercharger for the V8SHO?
Im not a fan of chips, I figure that ford squeezed evey bit of cheap hp they could, so I would start with exaust.

EEC Tuner is comming!

The reason chips don't work is they don't fully look into the car. Who knows your car better then you? All they do is make up a new fuel table, or spark curve, thats about it. With the EEC Tuner you can modify your STOCK tables to fit your demands and improving on fords tuning. Its not a patch work job, its using Fords code. Not some guy that is making $6 an hour to program a chip. Read up on the EEC Tuner, it will be here soon!

So...... OBD II just means it can diagnose itself better the version OBD-I. Also the code are suppose to be the same thru make and model of car (not sure on this one)

EEC-V is just allitlle more sofisticated than EEC-IV..... Just need to wait for someone to crack its code. They basically run the same sensors just the puter is given more control over motor. It took awhile for ppl to make software to reprogram EEC-IV succesfully ... EEC-V is coming just it has more shit.
