Your SHO should have D3S type HID lighting. Are you sure the focus is correct? There are upgraded bulbs available from Philips and Osram, I believe, if you want to try for a relatively plugnplay solution. Another option is to add an LED light bar.
As far as I know all US spec SHOs have HIDs standard and as SHOdded said they are D3S. As far as bulb upgrades I would not necessarily say they will help, there really isn't anything I would personally use with any real additional light output(lumens). Most if not all of the "upgrades" like the Osram CBI which is a high quality bulb minimal increased lumen output and increasing the color temp, from roughly 4300K stock to 5500-6000K which is about the max for quality replacements, there are higher color temps but I do not recommend as the higher color temps start to lose performance especially in fowl weather not to mention how bad some no name brand bulbs can be.
Beyond bulbs you can upgrade to 55W ballasts for more light output but I have not seen OEM as they are typically 35W and I would not expect the longevity of OEM. This will bring color temp down a little and reduce bulb life to some degree but HIDs last long enough I wouldn't be too concerned. Your other option is opening the housings and swapping the projector itself for a better engineered HID or LED unit, this is involved and I wouldn't suggest tackling this yourself if you are not mechanically inclined and ready to do some fab work as the odds of finding a bolt in replacement projector are slim.

I would definitely try that first. If they aren't adjusted it can make a big difference. Good luck.

Did you do this and did it help?
I drove my SHO at night for the first time last night and it seemed the low beam was seriously lacking. High beam was great but low beam seemed to be aimed to cut off about 75' in front of the car.
