a question about headlight covers for those with experience with them >

on Summit I see 2 different brands, same price, but different materials.

Composilite or Acrylic ?

I like the look but am still still really haven't bothered to find out if I am risking a ticket by having em on. seems like to me if the headlights still function then who cares if I change the way they look ?

I know old hat for some of you

you can still tint your tails..

Sal's lights are tinted using Niteshades.

but SHOs can still be done

Thanks Crix. I have a set of headlight covers I want to get rid of, if you'd like e-mail me and we can go from there.

As for my Tail lights, they are no covers.

Nite Shades is the product I used to black them out. It's a translucent paint which will shade the apperence of a clear surface when applied in coats. SummitRacing.com also provides this.

My friend Jose (Black Gen3 and Nate Silver Gen3) used a different approach. They got with a Vinyl Expert and had their tail lamp lenses tinted with a translucent vinyl. I think theirs looks much better than mine... I'll ask them how much they paid.

Although I believe it was close to $150.

But as for your question, nopers. So far no tail lamp covers made for the third generation SHO/Sable/Taurus

strict doesn't even begin to describe it. they are car-nazis. I didn't notice your location at the beginning of this thread. don't do it! and if you just have to, buy all new lights from ebay, tint them, and put them on only when you are going to car shows. I wanted to tint mine a while back and being the cautious person that I am I called the state popos to ask for their interpretation of the law, since its not specifically listed in the code, I asked politely whether it was legal or not, and the cop started raising his voice and threatening me. don't you ever do something like that, if we see it we'll ticket you!. my advice is to get out of the people's republic of Virginia as fast as you can, never look back, breathe free air, then tint your taillights. and as for accessorizing...anything that can be seen from the outside, makes light, makes noise, looks different than stock, feels different than stock, is a different color than stock, smells different than stock, is different than stock (for exhausts)...it's illegal here.

I honestly don't know about that one. but some things DO apply to visitors, or even people just passing though. VA declared a while back that their tint laws apply to anyone in the state, no matter where they are from. so if you have tint that's illegal in VA, even if its completely legal where you live, you could get a ticket for it. some people from the Tech car club have gotten exhaust tickets here, for exhausts that are legal where they are from. but on the other hand, if your home state doens't have front plates, you don't have to have one in VA, nor do you need those ugly stickers in the middle of your windshield (obviously) so it just depends, there are some things which they will ticket anyone for, and some things that are only for residents (prisoners). but as I said, the law does not say that tinted lights are illegal, it only specifies what color the lights must be when illuminated (inspection includes lens color, but I don't think the color of the lens is in the street laws) and how far back behind the car you must be able to see the light on a clear day. in theory, as long as you can still see the lights, tinted lenses are legal, but the cop told me that they would ticket anyone that has tints just for the fun of it, even if its not illegal. I don't know how that works...but that's what he said.

I think the tint looks great ... HOWEVER, aren't you worried about safety? I realize that the brake lights do still show through the tint, but the intensity is greatly reduced. There is a much greater chance of getting rearended - "I didn't see you stopping". In my opinion, when I'm driving with or without my family in the car, it's not worth the risk.

I agree, but with tint you can adjust how much tint you have, and the more you have the better the blackout look, but the more light you loose. with actual covers like the Gen II guys have the light transmission is reduced an enormous amount. when I did my tinting, I put just enough on to make the lenses look black in the shade. so you could see the red in the lenses if they were in direct sunlight, but they looked good otherwise, and the amount of light lost through the tint was unnoticable. in daytime I could still see the brakelights and even dimmer parking lights reflecting on the garage door, and when I turned on the turn signals and looked directly into the light, it blinded me. when the lights were on, you couldn't tell they were tinted at all. that's the effect you want to get

hey glad to see your a member here, i left you a guestbook message on cardomain last week telling you about this place and TCCA, and that im from richmond too ! glad to see someone close by for once.

i gotta agree with mike (mcgilles) and say dont do it, not worth the crap youll go thru.. that sums it all up. he's from Va too, he knows his stuff and his SHO is amazing in the pictures, but wait til you see it in person o god... and i saw it on a 'dirty' day, wow .

they are far and few around here, however ive discovered the following right around where i live: theres a guy just around the corner in my neighborhood with 2 g2's... a house a couple miles away with a g2... there used to be a silver g3 a couple miles away but i havent seen it in their driveway recently... there's a house about a half mile from me with a g1 (with police grill) wasting away in the backyard under a tree... i almost bougth a g1 a couple months ago but i couldnt afford to be broke at the time-i passed the same car two days ago on my way home from work some girl driving it... another family a couple miles away, right around the corner from the silver g3 that has a red g3, i graduated HS with one of the family's daughters... and then i see an immaculate white g3 around town occaisionally, in fact i saw it twice today unless it was two different ones but i dont think it was.

yes, we should get in touch. i know of a 2 or 3 with SLOs (such as myself) from over on TCCA who are around town also.

hey I think I've seen that one around too on Mechanicsville Tpke, I tried to get his attention but he didn't seem to relate the two diff SHO eras
or maybe he just didn't recognize me in time who knows
