55 ballast more power 5000lumens 5500 k lower then most 6500k or 100000k that people go with that are super white or with slight blue tint that are brighter then stock to help overcome the crappy beam pattern

More lumens wont change the beam pattern. In fact more lumens with a poor beam pattern may actually give you less usable visibility as it can instinctively draw your eye to hot spots, excessive foreground light, etc. instead of where you should be concentrating.

Also I'm prob just getting old but I wouldn't give up the reliability of OEM ballasts to upgrade to 55w. DDM isn't what it used to be, unless they have improved again in the last couple years. Morimoto is a better choice and probably the only one I would make if straying from OEM. But again the projectors are the real difference maker.

I don't drive enough in poorly lit areas to judge, honestly haven't paid enough attention. And I doubt I would be willing to open up the housing and fab in new projectors to make a real difference.

Agreed ddms slim ballast went out every year so i told them maybe because of the cold and they recommended the ultra ballast which have worked for a year longer so far. And now drive that car far less too.
In Alaska we have lots of unlit roads so it's nice to hit your highs and have three times more light with my 01 Impreza but I live in the city now so your right not a need to upgrade the lights now but will be doing it as long as work keeps going well for me.
