Hey guys, I wanted to have my intake Extrude-honed and I want to do huge bore butterflies

What are the measurements I could pass along to the machine shop to have this done?

Are there any advantages to having hbb over bbb?

I have looked around, I know I saw this somewhere, but a search didn't come up with anything useful. Not sure what I should search for when looking for that.

HBB's have to be made from scratch, only 2 of us have the cad files to do it.

noone knows what the gains are yet, Jose (?) never dynoed the set he made.

i have a set in the making ... one day ill get around to finishing them

in most cases, HBBs are "fool's gold"

most cases ? as far as i kow theres only one set of HBB's out there right now, and no dyno testing was done on them either, so im not quite sure wheer this statement even comes from

For the price of HBBs in a boosted application it would make more sense to step up and make a sheetmetal intake.

how much are you expecting HBB's to cost ?

More than some sheetmetal and longer bolts for the intake to heads. Come on, being a DIY'er yourself you could fab one up for less than $50 worst case scenerio. ;)

I did several dyno runs with the stock intake and the HBB ported intake, and I posted the results.

I will look for them again and post them. If I remember correctly the difference was about 12 FWHP.

I beleive that I offered them for sale at $600.00.

oh, they WERE dynoed ? coulda swore that for some reason the benifits of just hbb's was never actually known. i stand corrected.

i do however know that your price was $600, and i also know that my price for the housings alone (as they currently stand) is a decent bit less then 200, just gotta add the silicone couplers, 45mm plates, and the runner adapter rings.

Hbb

What are you doing for the short runners?? !!
The max the short runner inlet can be ported out is 40mm & even that is alot of porting & blending! The OD is 44mm!! Adding even regular BBB & not porting the short runner to 40mm makes them a de-mod because your just putting up a wall & creating turbulence. Esp if you remove the horns & do not add a large radius on the inside of that 45mm hole in the tank. Then still you have lost the design intent/benefit of engine pulse by reducing runner length & the benefit of pulling non-turbulent air from the center of the tank. ...Ahhhh.....but it sounds louder! LOL

the short runners receive an aluminium ring where the coupler usualy clamps in place. this gets welded all the way around so its sealed to the runner, this becomes the new coupler surface

the HBB's can be any size i want, i keep calling them 45mm out of habit, but a 43mm HBB would be just about right.

the stock UNPORTED runner has an inside area of 1.539", a 43mm hbb, minus the space taken up by the shaft and plate has an area of 1.84" AT BEST

since the port on the PLENUM is 45mm, i can have the HBB's cut so they neck down from 45 to 43, then from 43 to **insert value greather then 35.5 here** while leaving a straight cut area for the butterfly to seal on

buyer would be responsible for putting a radius on the plenum port. i believe there's also someone here on the forum that offers that service. said person has all the jigs and bits needed to do so and is quite reasonable in price

Both

LOL, yeah that's me. I have the jigs for doing the round-over. After dinner I will throw more pictures up here. I think a HHB with Round-over and Camfered Secondary port would be a excellent combination. Honestly, if a ring could be welded to the secondary port, then I could make a new jig that puts a really nice angle to meet the HBB. Maybe we could throw together a SHOforum fund, build a HBB, and I'll round-over for free, and then we could dyno test...?

Chew on that idea, I will be back...
