Hey gang.
I bought the Cumberland NUO122 clutch kit from Autozone for my 91.
The clutch disc and PP look to be the same but the TOB is way too small to fit over the shaft.
I did a search and read from Beths post that BCA 614118 TOB is the one I need.
Is it common for the TOBs in this kit to be too small?
(I think I read that here sometime ago)
Will this clutch kit work with the new TOB?
I'm sooo ready to get this job over with.
Thanks for any help y'all!

I put this kit in my car in November. I've put around 5k miles on the car and it's still running ok. The TOB was pretty big on the shaft, it had quite a bit of free play.

Maybe you have a quill sleeve that would need to be removed?

Good luck, putting it all back together is the fun part. :)

You mean on the shaft its self right?
I did not check that.WOO HOO better run and check!
As for the fun part,I can't wait.I've been laughing like a mad man this whole job long.
If thats not it I'm going to order the other TOB ad see how that goes.
Thanks for the help :thumb:

SHONUT ceramic

With premature PP finger weat being the primary cause of early clutch deaths, if would be very smart to invest in a SHONUT ceramic TOB :****:

Yes,I know the SHO Nut TOB would be the best, but fundage is a little low right now.
Mt car has 200,000 miles on her.If I can get even 50,000 more out of the clutch and TOB then I'd say the car has done all it's gonna do in this lifetime.
You're right though. The PP fingers were broken off.3 of them IIRC.
The old TOB had broke making it slide off and ride untrue.
With luck I won't be posting in 3 months with replies like "I told you so"
Thanks for all the help

i have the same clutch in my 91, 8.5K miles on first, 1.5K on second. the quill sleeve must be removed. if the clutch has never been touched, its still there. use some cleaner and clean up the quill sleeve and surrounding area.

My friend got a Dynapack from Autozone, and we had to go to OReillys to get the right TOB, but when we did, the manager swapped them all inconspicuously, and said, "Everything looks OK to me", and sent the other one to BCA in the box that the right one came in... Wasn't even a BCA product but they swapped it he said... But they know us well there. They call us the SHO guys.

I looked for a sleeve of some kind and there is none.I did a search on AZ.com for the TOB said to be right. The site said they could order, when I went in they said the could'nt.Anyhow AZ wanted $32 for it and Advance has it for $15 overnight.
Sure hope it's the right one.Whats the deal with these TOBs?
Do these clutch makers just throw in any old bearing in there to make it complete or what?
I thought maybe it was from the 89 90 model years with the 9 1/2" clutch discs.Maybe using a smaller diam. TOB?
I even had them search up to a 95 and the same clutch kit and TOB was listed.
I should expect this much from the Autozone though. They were even looking up clutch parts for a Tempo to see if that matched up

Please remember guys that auto parts stores are often far behind the times. Autozone still has the S.H.O. defined as "Special High Output" in their computers.

More than likely the kits you guys have purchased were originally packaged for the older smaller TOB which has since been corrected on most transmissions.

Using the number I supplied above, I recently called my Advance Auto part store and ordered a kit for Greg that was complete with the proper TOB, quill sleeve and I believe the pin as well. The cost on it was just under $25.00. When calling them you must ask for the "kit" otherwise you'll pay $15.00 for just the TOB.

Just for the record, I've run Josh's ceramic TOB and loved it. When I was trying to figure out the rattle sound I had in mine I swapped it to a stock BCA bearing and have been running that since, even on the track with no issues whatsoever. Since I found that the rattle I was hearing was caused by the clutch disk and not the TOB, Josh's ceramic one will be going back into my car the next time the clutch is replaced, however the stock TOB for most of the applications and conditions is fine. I got 90k out of my last stock TOB.

Yep. Here is a pic:

Also notice the secondary wear further out on the fingers where the body of the TOB started to ride/wear :corn:

 RIGHT!

All in all I am just totally annoyed at how the crappy stock-style TOB ruined a perfectly good pressure plate. The disc itself probably had another 50k left on it...

half-way there, I think.
One thing that contributes to that is the release fork. Make sure it doesn't look like this one. I replaced mine with a slightly used one.
