Any one ever have a hard time backing the harmonic balancer bolt out? Vehicle is at 123k. 60k was performed @60 and had no problem with bolt at that time. Seyfer Auto in Denver told me to apply some heat (very little heat)to the bolt and this should help it to break loose. However, my tech's say this can damage the crank. Don't want to destroy engine. Please HELP!!! shrug

Using a 1/2" socket wrench laying it on the subframe, bump the starter twice. It will pop right off.

Work @Medved Chevy and live out in Aurora (approx. I70 and Chambers). Tryed the bump thing (didn't work). I guess next step is to put the wheels on the ground, in gear, 3/4" impact and pray and maybe a little heat on the bolt.

The ford stealer tried a 3/4" air gun on my V8 and couldn't budge it. The bump method popped it right off. You got Loctite on it? Beware of heat.

I'm usually out that way every weekend - All my friends live out there - I use to. But comuting from Aurora to Golden everyday would really suck. Oops - time to update the profile - it's Westminster now, not Arvada.

I've often wondered about the Loctite myself. I don't think so, however that was 60k miles ago!

Heating the bolt will expand the bolt and make it even harder to loosen the bolt. Not a good idea. The wrench should be positioned as in the picture below. I now use a 3" wide piece of 1/2" plywood between the wrench handle and the subframe to give the handle something to bite into so that it won't slip. And as luigisho said, unplug the DIS module so that the engine won't try to start.
