Best advise I've heard is to match them up with the arms you remove from the car and trim them to match. I'm pretty sure my car needed a total of 1/2" trimmed off to fit.

For stiffness, you will need to add an H brace to the central attachment point for the control arms. If you are planning on tracking the car, you should consider adding rear knuckle braces as well.

No, you do not need to add the H brace. What I meant to say is that if you are interested in stiffening the car up, then an H brace is a good addition.
