A long time lurker from Finland finally registering.

I've never had a SHO but a bunch of more or less fast Fords over the years. Ford Sierra RS Cosworth in the 80's, Sierra Cosworth "4x4" (AWD) and an ****** RS Cosworth in early 90's, even a K-engine '65 Mustang at one time.

The main reason I registered now is that I'm looking for a well-kept and trouble free 2013+ Taurus SHO PP for one of my daughters. She started college in Texas this fall, needs a car and this seems to be an ideal solution. Enthusiast forums are often a better bet than used car dealers or classified ads.

lots of maintenance is required. make sure its history shows this, and good luck 5 star crash test ratings, lots of room, and can get up and go.

How’s your daughter at oil/coolent/transfluid/gear oil changes? Handy with a code scanner? Proficient in autonomous maintenance?

And welcome

She's been around when I've (re)built engines, mainly Cosworth YB:s, Nissan RB:s and GM Mark IV & Gen V big blocks with his brother, and occasionally helped with Volvo VIDA, Mercedes Star/DAS/Xentry and Bentley VCDS diagnostics on my cars, but she's in the college to get a degree in repairing people, not cars, so DIY is to be substituted with a good, local independent shop.

Thanks.

Really half joking. Just wanted to illustrate that I wouldn’t call any generation SHO “trouble free.” These cars require a ton of maintenance to even have a hope to keep them reliable with a fairly high cost of ownership especially if you’re paying a shop for the maintenance. To be completely honest I’d rather put my daughter in a Taurus SLO.

Don’t get me wrong, I love these cars but I’m not going to lie to you and tell you they’re super reliable. Especially buying one with unknown history and over 60k miles.

Best luck

We've had a continuous chain of moderate reliability record / extreme maintenance cost cars and trucks in the family for decades so this is not jumping into the deep end of the pool blind. More like a compromise. We have a habit of keeping and restoring our kids' first cars instead of trading them in (a Celica ST205 GT-Four, a Skyline R33 GT-R V-Spec and an Audi RS6 accumulated so far) so a Taurus SHO is somewhere between demolishing the piggy bank and driving an utter $#!%box - so don't worry, I've seen worse. Much worse.

And honestly, I'd personally like to have a then-vintage SHO once she's done with it. I almost bought one myself ten years ago.
