K, so I'm running a crappy Wal-Mart special Pioneer deck, Boston Pro SL-60 6 1/2 components in the front doors, and Pioneer coaxs in the rear deck. I've got a Pioneer Premier SPL2000 12" sub in a vented pre-fab box (vent's tuned at 37hz) and a Rockford Fosgate 501bd amp.

End result? 138.9db. The worst part is, I forgot to turn up the sub level control on the deck, causing me to wind up 2nd in my class by .4db. Guy who won had a JL 8W7 in a GMC Jimmy and hit 139.3. It was on a certified IASCA meter stuck in the windshield on the passenger's side. I hit 138.8 using the Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood", and only 1/10th more with a 100-20hz sine sweep due to the snafu with the head unit....I have no doubt that if I woulda turned the deck up, I would've hit 140. Oh well....next time I'll know better.

Its funny to see some of the music people use for metering DB

I used to use of all things " what a feeling" by Irene Cara from the flashdance soundtrack, first song. There is a bass line in the first 30 seconds of the song that I swear to god is recorded louder than anything else I have ever used.

I had a typical "BOOM" cd that had different bass frequencys. ( 100, 50, 45, 30, 20 ect) I used a meter and found the loudest tone off that CD I could find and then tried the flashdance CD and it still hit almost 3 DB higher.

Not sure if the remastered CD is the same as one of the original's but, you should try it.

Yeah, Yeah, I know the song is lame, but give it a spin......

Me and my friends actually use a SLAP official termlab meter, about $3000 my personal best is a 155.7 my friend is at 157.6 and I have a few guys that I know localy at shows who are above the 160DB mark.
We all test with my 2 15's and 5000 watts in my explorer 54hz volume on 57 bass on -1 got me the 155.7 good enough for a first place or 2.
you should try 4 15" in a crx that hurts, thats how my local team mate/ friend got a 157.6
NE CAR AUDO TEAM LOUD CROWD
working on my set up for next yr at the momment, 6 12" subs and a 6000 watts :-D

audio boom

Unreal

sounds system should be built for you , that you believe it sounds right.

Not by how loud it can be.

Loud and quality is 2 things.

Loud is easy : take a tweeter and have it to do some serious feedback (sqweeks like a 5 years old) And your gonna blow the DB tester machine.

"Hey mang i got the loudest sound mang 'n'thehood yo." (sound like a pile of crap but dont tell anyone)

Ditto...
I prefer crisp quality bass, that accents the music. Which is why im running a 10'' w/ 300watts on it. coupled to some tuned component speakers and a quality deck, i can crank it up LOUD, and still be able to make out each and every sound.

I used to be into bass, a matter of fact i still am...sort of.... I tune my buddies cars all the time. He is constantly switching systems. Right now he is running 2 12'' Rock's Type R's on a measly 400watt'er. And to tell you the truth, i think its up in the range of 150's or so... but me personally im out of that phase. Atleast in my own car.
Dont get me wrong, I like to have my intestine's rattle from time to time though. or my heart miss a beat... :laugh_ti: but not every...single... day....
